lovley music yes, indeed. But the purist in me will choose period costumes any hour of the day.

Could not agree more. Even when I - not without suffering - suppress the purist in me, I could not disregard that in art deco decorations the British military uniform of 1920-s would look more appropriate for "the officers". That way the costumes would look, at least, more consistent.

Baroque opera in modern clothes just doesn't work. One would think directors would have understood this after 50 years.
