I actually shouted out "nooooo" when I saw you'd cracked the screen. The wife thought I'd broke something! Gutted for you. I've always fitted mini screens using nylon string., which is the traditional old school method. You fit the seal to the screen, run the cord around the recessed edge and drop the ends of the cord inside the car. Put the part of the window where the ends of the cords over the scuttle lip and then push firmly on the screen, while you slowly pull the cord away from the window. Keep moving around the screen, pushing on the area where you're pulling the cord. I've always been able to do this on my own, but I have long arms. It will be easier if you can get someone to push the window, while you pull the cord. I've fitted loads of mini windows this way and never broken one. Good luck!

Delicate job. Done mine a few months back. Put the seal in warm water for a while before fitting. It makes it more ssoft and easier to manoeuvre. I wouldn't use screwdrivers with a small blade. I used a pry bar and wrapped duct tape around the end and use loads of soapy water to help the glass slide into the rubber. Just takes time.

I did film it for my channel but lost that and a lot of other videos with a corrupt harddrive. The other method us using string or bungie cord like the haynes manual says or like was done in wheeler dealers but it can be tough on the rubber. Look forward to your next attempt

Hiya, I'm a novice like yourself who only recently installed a new windscreen on my Triumph Herald. Was obviously nervous about the task but whilst pondering how to proceed noticed my son playing Lego which has in larger kits a small orange plastic blade tool for levering Lego pieces apart. Firm but not metal with good grip. Thought I would use this as an improvise blade on the windscreen rubber. Worked like a dream!!!

Theses things happen tom, character building they call it, two man job on screen inserting, and best to use thin nylon cord (lubed up) and inserted into the seal. While one person applies pressure onto the screen the other person pulls out the cord, which pulls out the seal enough for the screen to be pushed in but by bit. Hope that helps mate

i will fit with rope method with lock strip fitted just leaving the top out if it seems hard to rope in " if its a hard job i will rope in with no stinking lock strip, 3rd go after a visit to the thunder box , ill resort to the scary way , I also have windows on a motor home to remove 12 or so , its a ex bus , The rear has a safety pull out type and a lock strip that the manual says fit last , because it is a pull out it must be fitted with rope and the top to be put in first then rope, ie rope ends at start of the job are at the top crossed over , Rick

Tom, it happens to the best of us mate! One thing I wish I’d done before fitting the windscreen is for the dash top trim. It was a nightmare with the windscreen in!! As said below, done use fairy, I used silicone lube (I’m sure you’ve got some in a bedroom drawer somewhere ;) ) as it doesn’t attack the rubber.

hahahah! loving the bedroom draw comment ! :) you make me laugh hahahah

Try using para cord to put the windscreen in? The adhesive that you were using for the rubber seal is supposed to dry, you should apply glue to each surface let it dry then stick them together. I have never used it on rubber seals but use it a lot at work and it should stick as soon as the two surfaces come into contact, it should explain this on the tin so it's maybe worth another go. The car looks great btw
@TomShorrock7 жыл бұрын
Graeme Brown thanks Graeme, I did try this afterwards but it doesn’t like the rubber so I’m going to try a different product thanks for the advice also 👌🏻
@tomlead87577 жыл бұрын
Dude so close! I do mine with a credit card and soapy water, start at the bottom and work your way up. Also make sure the rubber seal is tight to the window frame at the top as this can pinch up a little and collect water. That Evo stick is a two part adhesive, put on both parts give a min and they will stick like shit. Nice vid man good luck with round two!
@TomShorrock7 жыл бұрын
Tom Lead thanks buddy! 👌🏻 I tried that with the evostick and it just doesn’t seem to want to stick to the rubber some I’m going to collect something else 👌🏻

Damn it, man, you were so close! :( Hopefully you will get it fit in no time... For my VW Beetle I used the same method as some have already mentioned (using a cord), even though it probably is different than this. It's probably best to ask for an extra pair of hands for this kind of procedure. Already waiting for next video! Keep up the great work and don't let this keep you down! :D

Hi tom, gutted for ya! I'd go with the string method.......Nylon round string fed into the rubber using soapy water. get a helper to push gently on the outside of the screen while you pull the string slowly around the outside also. i've done it a few times, it worked a treat. Hope to get a vid of my mini to ya soon......life gets in the way! Martin Scott

Put the rubber on the window Put string around the rubber with the two ends at the bottom Put window and rubber in the mini at the bottom Get ,2nd person to put a bit of pressure on the window and rubber while someone on the inside slowly pull the string through making the rubber go over the metal edge Do not rush and split the rubber. Use soap Hope this helps

Hey I've got a few tips that might help buddy :) first I would recommend not using washing up liquid as it has a high salt content and once trapped between the seal can cause rust! Secondly don't use a screw driver! If you don't crack the screen you will tear the seal! But your self some plastic trim tools like you use for car interiors a few quid on eBay! And for lubricant I recommend either rubber grease or a spray lubricant like wd40 but one that can be used on rubber as wd can't :) best of luck

i hate fitting mini windscreens. defo a 2 person job for me. my top tip is don't use screwdrivers, buy plastic bicycle tyre levers and for fitting the filler strip get the tool with the roller, oh and i use WD40 for lube and not water. probably not good for the rubber but works well. love your editing skills, keep up the good wok

@tonywatkinson35237 жыл бұрын
There’s no easy way to do it, a string sometimes works but it has to be thick enough to stay in the rubber with the two ends meeting at the bottom middle, gently insert the screen into the bottom of the rubber then pull the strings outwards this pulls the rubber lip over the screen also washing up liquid has a very high salt content was will entice rust at a faster rate under the rubber try using lashings of WD-40 as lube instead😉
@TomShorrock7 жыл бұрын
