@johnmccaughan41953 жыл бұрын
@@debbiehorn8263 One of the Oklahoma schools requires about $2800 worth of tools to attend. I saw a Farrier trailer similar to Kordale's listed used for $18,000. That does not include the Forge, Drillpress grinders and such. So it is a large investment. The payoff is based off his personality, skill, business sense and how hard he wants to work. I don't think he has been in business long enough to be turning down a Pony.

In hot shoeing, I've seen farriers put the hot shoes in water to cool off. Why didn't Kordale do that? Or farriers don't cool off shoes anymore? 19 years old, and Kordale did an excellent job on Rawhide.
@TheFarmonRoute663 жыл бұрын
he did he had a bucket but i didn't relaize you were suppose to so when editing didn't leave that section in
@melissawarfield3 жыл бұрын
@@TheFarmonRoute66 It's actually up to the farrier. But if the horse is like Rawhide, I would've dunked the shoe in the water after showing what the heat does to the hoof. Some horses might refuse shoes if a hot shoe is put on.
@adrianashilling25733 жыл бұрын
I event and our shoer taps shoes for screw in studs to give traction as needed on cross country. If you plunge a hot shoe into cold water it makes the steel a lot harder and it’s a bear to drill holes and use a tap to create threads. So if our shoer hot shoes he just lets the shoes cool off slowly before he nails them on. Also had the misfortune of using a farrier for awhile who was big on hot shoeing because he couldn’t get a foot level to save his life. Anyone contemplating going to showing school should spend some time apprenticing with a shoer so they know what they’re getting into. You an make a good living but it is also very physically demanding.
@melissawarfield3 жыл бұрын
@@adrianashilling2573 I haven't had a horse for quite sometime. So shoeing a horse with a hot shoe has changed when I owned my horses. The farrier I had back then never had any problems putting on the shoes with screw in studs or even nailing the shoes.. The hooves were always level for my horses.
@adrianashilling25733 жыл бұрын
@@melissawarfield I think you didn’t understand my comment. The screw in studs aren’t to attach the shoes to the hoof . Different types of studs can be screwed into the holes the shoer drilled and tapped when the horse was shod. It allows you to have good traction when you run cross country without having all the increased strain and torque on the horses’ legs the 99% of the time when it’s not doing cross country jumping. If you are going to have to drill a hole in the shoe and create threads in that hole you can’t cool a shoe you’ve made red hot quickly because it makes the steel much harder and practically impossible to drill a hole in. When the horse is shod the shoes are attached to the hooves with nails as usual.
