Has anybody skated like this before or since. I still remember vividly Toller's performances on Canadian tv in the 70s. Everything else would simply stop-- dinner, conversation, chores, homework, talking on the phone with friends-- would come to a halt while we watched. This is a very nicely put together montage, it really captures the essence of the skater. Many thanks.

I just cannot stop watching this video! Toller Cranston. How can anyone on this earth be that talented and express themselves with that much abandon?! My goodness that man is a gem. I hope more people post new cranston stuff, as I am 24 and never had the privilege of seeing his gifted work in it's time. He was ahead of his time...so AHEAD....Toller changed my career when he choreographed a number for me. He did it in 6 minutes and it changed the next twenty years of my life.

He's the reason I enjoy figure skating today. There were certainly equally as good skaters during his time, but he did moves that were all his own and that's what set his apart from the others. Artistry mattered back then; now it's mostly about how many quads a skater can do.

Thanks to the European skating fans Toller toured Europe as an amateur skater. They appreciated his quality landings, triple jumps in combinations, his gravity defying spins, his over split Russian split jumps, and actually skating to his music. In his era school figures were worth 60% and then lowered to 50% of the mark. Finally short and long free skate programs were introduced in addition to the school figures. He is from the era where countries judges were trading placements and the ordinal system hid some of the manipulation of score. Toller learned to skate for himself because the judges had been bought. He was a great artist that figure skated. 🌺
