I love how everyone always gives the Flyers shit for being "just a bunch of goons" in the 70s when A) The only reason we decided to get bigger and badder was because everyone else was beating the shit out of us, and we got sick of it. And B) Beating up the opponents didn't put us ahead on the scoreboard. We won games because we played better hockey. Bobby Clarke was arguably the best player in the league from 1973-1976, considering he won either the Hart of the Ted Lindsay each of those years. Not to mention Bernie Parent set a single season wins record in 1974 that only Martin Brodeur has beaten. We didn't win back-to-back Cups because we were goons. We did it because we played the best hockey.

We “gooned” up against Colorado because when you lay dirty hit from behind and then laugh about it, we beat you into a turtle and leave blood on the ice. It’s all about standing up for your teammates. Also I remember in 2012 Kronwall laid a big hit on one of the flyers and knocked him out. Then Daniel Briere said postgame, “we hate to see that happen to one of our guys but at the same time it’s hockey”. Truth. Not saying the wings don’t ever do anything dirty but at least You guys understand it’s part of the game. The other team from Pennsylvania would’ve cried about it but have no problem doing it to other teams. No respect for that.

Plus all refs call it differently, so you cannot justify someone as a diver or not off of having an embellishment penalties. Many are bullshit, plus many more go under the radar.
