Hi. Just found your video. We are planning for a camping at totaranui in January. Do you recommend doing a full day road trip from christchurch and setting up camp just before dark as we arrive there? This will be for my wife and I, plus three young kids. Thanks.

People do that. But I would not recommend it. Are you taking a tent or caravan? Either way, I would suggest stopping at Murchison, Motueka or Nelson on the first night, in a cabin, or something like that and then drive the rest of it the next day. It's such a big drive for one day. A bit different on the way back, because you can just leave everything in the car when you get home and unpack the next day.
