FYI: This is an extremely RARE occurrence in 1960's TV presentations. The singers of their songs get to sing LIVE to the BACKING TRACK of their hit records. In most cases on most 1960's music show TV presentations, all you would ever get would be the singers "LIP-SYNCING" to their records. In this case, you are HEARING the actual voices of Diana Ross, Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson actually SINGING LIVE to the instrumental backing track of their records. VERY RARE, indeed.

The real Berry Gordy did an EXCELLENT job of acting hesitant and befuddled while still telling the truth, thus throwing the panel off the scent. Of course, he didn't just create The Supremes, he also helped create a baby with Diana Ross, so Kitty wasn't so far off in her assessment of him!!

I grew up in Detroit during this time. Motown music was on everyone’s radios and record players back then. When the different artists from Motown started making money, they all would come visit my uncle. He was a salesman at Falvey Motors in Ferndale on Woodward Ave. Falvey specialized in European luxury automobiles. He sold Rolls Royces, Jaguars, and MG’s to all the singers of the sixties, and had autographed 8x10’s of them. A few years ago, Diana Ross’s restored Jaguar came up for auction. The original sales invoice was included, and my uncle was named on it, as her salesman. It was a fun time.

The greatest achievement of motown's writers is, they succeeded to put the golden, the cream of the crops of proficiencies on the music which everyone could easily listen to. They already considered the respective aspects of the softwear and the hardwear of music from 55 years ago.

Clearly Berry Gordy was far better at representing others than himself. On introduction I knew who Berry Gordy was, but as the show got started I can see why no one believed he was him firstly because the affidavit gave the impression of an articulate, organized individual, which instantly appear to correlate with the look of number 2, secondly Barry's body language throughout was timid and shy which simply didn't fit with the image of the leader of an organization that was as big and powerful as it was, and thirdly when he was asked questions he seemed unsure of himself as well as the answers. If I didn't know who he was I would have voted for number two too. On a totally separate note I was super surprised at the opening of the show when The Supremes didn't appear to be cohesive, they were not only bumping into each other but off beat at times -- I'd truly love to know how that all came about

Orson is always drinking water, particularly after he votes and the camera moves to Kitty. I don't think it is a nervous thing, I think it is a way of relaxation and besides it is very healthy thing to do.

Berry Gordy, Jr. made R & B what it is today! And the one with Orson’s dad was fun (so tragic how Orson died- 91 I think he was, if memory serves, and he gets run over by 2 cars while out for an early evening walk- that’s no way to go!)!

1) Why didn't Orson keep his real name in show business? Dallas Burrows would've been a great name for the entertainment industry. 2) I bet Orson visited the bathroom as soon as the show was over. Dude must've consumed 4 glasses of water during the last segment. LOL!

One of the few live TV shows in the '60s where the vocalists didn't lip sync to the music. The Supremes were singing live in both songs. The audio tracks were from the actual recordings however, since the show didn't have a band or orchestra to back them up.
@jackanthony976

The Supremes were vocally so good that they could sing live at any time, even acapella when asked. In Japan, the Supremes sang You Can't Hurry Love acapella on the spot during an interview when asked.

There was a another side to all of this rock music all of which came on very quickly and unless you lived through it (in the specific time frame ) you would be about 84 now or had parents that listen to music before this thing called rock and roll that came on with the likes of Elvis Presley and the Beatles and Motown. There was music before that and it was actually very good but it got drowned out by all of the different Rock and rolls. And I'm sure the people that listen to that music always felt a little bit of disdain when they would hear and see rock and roll Stars which would have been a very big let down. I can remember some of the record album covers I can still visualize Don Ho Jim Reeves Julie London Perry como Sammy Davis Junior, to name a few Dean Martin ect,,. All of this music took a back seat to a quick younger generation that came on the scene while people who were a little bit older did not ever connect rock n roll .

Gordy took Motown to LA and things were never the same in my opinion. Mary Wilson had a torrid love affair with singer Tom Jones. To me, she was the Beautiful one of the group. Flo Ballard lost everything when released from the group..she was raped, could not find work and died at a young age.
