The Broadway comedy play Tom Ewell mentioned was called Patate in which he starred as an unsuccessful inventor. The show opened October 28. 1958 and closed four days later on November 1st.

Omg I’ve been to Alfredo’s in Rome. Fun show for me. And I watched because I’m former flight attendant. Which explains my knowing of Lago Maggiore

Funny how the panelists started to leave after they all got the flight attendant one wrong. 😂

Sadly Ellen Church died in a horseback riding accident a few years after this show aired.

The best thing about watching this show on you-tube is that I can skip over Polly Bergen's idtiotic questions and statements that she always makes. She could give a Tylenol tablet and Excedrin headache.

Agreed. She always says, "I picked two, but think it's one," or some variation of that.

@@robertdesantis6205 That, and another she used was "Can I change my vote"?. That one never worked.

Ellen Church? I thought that the first airline attendant was Maude Frickert.

Stressa is on Lago Maggiore, one of my favorite places on earth. It’s number 1 on my bucket list to return. I will stay at the Dino Hotel in Baveno. Slice of heaven on earth.

Looks like Patate starring Tom Ewell only ran two or three performances. Also starring the lovely Susan Oliver and Lee Bowman.

M. M. Actually, I just looked it up on the Internet Broadway Database, and it ran seven performances. Still not very impressive.

I believe that's a play by Marcel Achard and it's pretty fitting it didn't succeed, as a French-Canadian saying "faire patate" means "to fail".

Bud's "meh" reaction when told the title of the play meant "potato" is quite indicative. The moment when the three Italian contestants consulting with each other about the meaning of the question is precious.

For that first episode and ones like it, should they not have forbidden the panelists from asking any questions related to speaking a foreign language?

Wow, that "first airline attendant" really surprised me, she was extremely withdrawn and maybe just got lucky with the questions (truthful?). Weird.

The panel did not have a good episode. Sometimes, you have to give the contestants credit for fooling the entire and getting all the votes with their knowledge of the subject. Polly is too much. Thanks for the video.

I didn't get through all of the second game yet; but as soon as I heard the "Can I wear glasses to be a stewardess," I think I knew. On another reality show, someone said that you CAN'T wear glasses to be stewardess. So based on that, I'm going for #1

Polly Bergen asked that question of a flight attendant on an episode in the first year. She thought she couldn't and didn't vote for the contestant who said she could. That was the real one and told Polly Bergen she could still be a flight attendant as long as she didn't wear the glasses during the flight.
