It's strange that they lip synced considering Jean Michael Byron is singing Bobby Kimbal's chorus which is extremely odd. They were probably forced to use the original recording for quality purposes. Solid Gold made performers lip sync all the time. I'm sure Bobby was like what the heck when he saw this.

Not to burst your bubble but most of the songs on Countdown are lip synced. Been listening to this playlist and there's only been 2 songs out of 20, that sound live. Still fun to put faces to the music. Plus, some of the songs in the playlist I've never heard but are great songs!

Toto appeared on Solid Gold in 1987 with Joe Williams miming Bobby Kimball's vocals on Africa. Jean Michel Byron didn't really fit in the band at all. Toto couldn't get rid of him fast enough.

This is probably not a real live performance. The Yamaha SY77 could possibly produce all of these sounds, but it would be a stretch. And when he does the solo, he doesn't seem to touch any buttons or change the patch, but it changes dramatically anyway. It's possible that he is controlling synth modules off stage and somebody else switched the sound. But it's more likely that they're just lip synching.

Een bezetting die maar kort bestaan heeft. Zanger Jean Michael Byron (die door de platenmaatschappij naar voren was geschoven als vervanger van Joseph Williams) viel niet bij iedereen even goed. De leden van Toto en vooral Steve Lukather waren zijn gedans, divagedrag en "Michael Jackson on Crack shit" snel beu. Alleen op het album "past to Present 1977-1990 nam hij vier nummers met Toto op, krap een jaar later werd hij ontslagen.

Als ik me goed herinner, was Byron als suggestie door Sony aangedragen. Heb Lukather in een interview ooit horen zeggen dat ze daar idd snel spijt van hadden...
