1982, 14 years old, mom is making dinner, this song on the radio, playing outside until the street lights come on, the whole future in front of us. I kinda feel like crying right now, mom is 84 and not for this earth much longer, dad and so many have gone, all those memories and people and times so long ago, all gone though they seemed like they would last forever, but right here right now alive in my heart with this song

This song is an absolute masterpiece - a flawless pop symphony. These guys were the cream of the crop - original members such as Steve Lukather, David Paich, and Jeff Porcaro were some of the most sought-after session musicians of their day before they formed a band. IMO, Rosanna was the best American pop song to be released since "Good Vibrations" came out in 1966.

Steve Porcaro was dating Roseanna Arquette at the time David Paich composed the tune. He didn´t have a title for the song and one day went to some place where Steve and Rosseanne were and ,well, the rest is history. Paich himself tells the history in some interview I saw here on the tube. By the way, the girl in red is Cynthia Rhodes, Penny in 1987's Dirty Dancing. Also Patrick Swayze appeared in the video as one of the group of male dancers who back up Cynthia. He is the one wearing a red jacket.@@djstyxxsuriname

My Uncle, David Hungate, is the actual bassist you hear in the recording. When he left Toto after recording TOTO IV, Mike Porcaro took over until a few years before his death in 2015. David actually sold one of his basses to Mike. David was Mike's favorite bass player! Imagine growing up at the beginning of the golden era of music videos and this comes on your television. I would hum this jam while riding my bike, going to see my guys, and fell in love with this groovy tune. Sometimes I get down and want to go back to the 80's, see my family members who have gone on to the next life, have the innocence of youth, and rock out to jams like this all day long.

First of all, not only a great song, but a great band. Toto, as musicians, really had their stuff together, and the product of their work shows just how much effort they put into it. On a different note, at 3:12 the girl in the video makes quite a provocative dance move. All I have to say is that if she did that to me, there BETTER be a 10 chain link fence in between us, or someone is going to wind up pregnant.

That's exactly what I feel too. The bad music nowadays creates opportunities for the classic to come back out. Right? I mean this kind of masterpiece song can only get better as bad songs come out each year. It just shows u , we should never take for granted real musicians that make real music. Btw the whole song is amazing, but for my the highlight is starting at 2:53 which the keyboard and the trumpets come together while Cynthia rhoades starts to gracefully dance like spinning, and kicking her leg. Then the three guys with the trumpets play, and the keyboard again, so it starts melodic then the mean guitar comes in. That was insane.

I was only born in 83 so my music tastes started in the 90s with grunge and although Alice in Chains is my favourite band ever, I too have been chasing the 80s music for a little while now and it just completely destroys what people call music these days. My old man brought me up on 70s rock so as much as I love that era, the 80s just has something so pure that nothing can replicate it.

4:47 These licks are endorphins for ears. I love Steve's guitar playing. He is my favorite player besides a handful of others but Steve is the best. I am not the only one with that opinion. That outro and that solo are... unmatched. the thing is, Steve came up with a few "next-level" solos like that. great players can cover them, if they are really good and listen to all those little nuances he inserts in his playing. He is the guy Eddie van Halen said, that he is the best player in the world and his favourite. it is not about skill or competition. ABSOLUTELY NOT. it is always about the idea behind it. Steve is the creator. and by the way: braindead speed shredding is advanced beginners' stuff. beginners think, that the faster someone plays, the better. which is 100% wrong. playing the guitar is about the transfer of emotions. there is no other emotion in a braindead speed shredder solo than, 1000 cock roaches running around looking for food.

Funny thing is that I loved this song growing up and now I love it even more. The little things that Bobby Kimball does in between the main lyrics really enrich the song. For example, when he says " I never knew that losing you would ever hurt so bad". It's not the lyric itself,it's the way he sings and expresses it that is incredibly moving! I don't think a digital remaster is too much to ask for. If you check out the video for Africa by Toto it's clearly been digitally remastered to meet modern-day standards. I think it's awesome that people my age (I was born in the mid-90s) would even be willing to listen to music from the 80s and back, and I don't think it's selfish or spoiled to ask for this awesome music in higher quality so that it becomes that much more awesome.
@yebboshwamuel8 жыл бұрын
Albert Douglas Holy shit, relax. I never asked for anything from you. The reason I brought up that I'm young is because the original comment was talking about kids complaining about audio quality on old songs, not because I wanted to brag about how I listen to old music or because I thought I was doing someone a favor .
@tinaw.55388 жыл бұрын
+Stereotypical Mexican Ludicolo Yeah, alberts reply was a bit harsh..but since I said it first, yes, I do think a digital remaster is too much to ask for, purely because though you have good taste in music, I think it's best enjoyed in the original formats it was filmed and recorded in. remember too that MTv was just invented in late 1981, not everybody had cable, and it was a pay channel besides. I really like finding them on the internet so many years later just the way I left them. if nothing else, try to see it as a history lesson of what I had back then versus what you have now.
