Still a great depot, even now! I remember the Toton open days back in the early 80's!. A lot more classes back then.

Good job you went when you did. I bet after all the rain of this last week has made the footpath very muddy slippery and deep puddles. Just shows how many workings down the freight division is at the moment with covid. Doubt the yard gets much fuller of locks then that.

Nice vid. No excuse for all them 60s being left to rot. Modern locos and proven to be more fuel efficient than both 59's and 66's, criminal really but I guess thats what is Great about Great Britain 🤔

Ewan's rail vids , despite your title you don’t seem to be aware of DB’s current situation . You say that 60’s were more fuel efficient but without reliability what good were they . 59’s and 66’s have more than proved themselves. Also DB have lost a huge number of contracts to their competitors in recent years and subsequently have way too many locos on their books . What would be the point of restoring unneeded motive power ? I do however think it’s a terribly sad sight to see all those locos idle and rotting .

@@kennethhume8628 I am aware of DB's situation, I get local freight from the Mendips and know DBC lost that contract which was a huge loss. The 60's can't be that unreliable otherwise why would GBRf, DC Rail and DBC themselves have them? Plus why were DBC planning on reinstating 10 for the Mendip contract to replace the AI owned 59's if the 60's were so terribly unreliable? (DBC also favoured the 60's over there 59/2's hence why they sold them to FLHH, they didn't have to!!) The thing is I've seen comments from maintenance staff who work on both 60's and 66's and it appears the 60's are actually cheaper to maintain now, they stated that the 66's reliability has dropped over the years and there poor build quality is showing now more than ever, the comments from drivers are a big eye opener too! I've never seen an actual reliability figure for the 60's published by any FOC's either, wonder why that is? EWS are to blame for the situation, they purposely ran the 60's into the ground so they could replace them with 66's and also make them less attractive to other FOC's if they were ever planning on selling them, Americans don't like anything thats better than anything they can come up with and thats a fact. I guess really privatization was the major factor as if things were still under BR then just maybe the majority of the 60's could have been working instead of rotting away. Sadly it is what it is, at least there are some still on the network and its good to see DC Rail investing in the class, from what I understand they are happy with the 60's.

Ewan's rail vids ,you start off with some good points, but then miss the point. EWS didn’t run the 60s into the ground to thwart enthusiasts. They expected to run all 100 alongside the 250 66s. Unfortunately increasing competition meant loss of contracts , and reduced need for locos. What are you going to run ? Leased 66s , you HAVE to pay £thousands for each month, or 60s which you can just lie up. Basic economics I’m afraid, not some anti spotter conspiracy.

Ewan's rail vids , you seem to have forgotten that the only 60’s running by DB are the totally refurbished versions and the other companies who bought ex DB 60’s had them refurbished in a similar manner before they ran them . As some of the early 66’s are now quite old it’s no surprise that their availability level has suffered , that’s down to wear and tear , it isn’t rocket science .

@@kennethhume8628 60's need overhauls as well you know, whats wrong with improving or updating a locomotive? I was hoping to post my original comment without people trying to cause arguments but some people like yourself plus Rob D2 just can't help themselves. I have seen various drivers say that the 60's are the best Type 5 out there still now even plus facts and other comments from drivers and maintenance staff who are familiar with both 60's and 66's. At the end of the day who I am going to believe? People who drive/maintain both 60's and 66's who are currently still in the industry or two randomers on KZbin? I think you both the know the answer to that. Case closed.
