"Do not quench the Spirit." Feels extremely relevant to how I perceive things, especially as the crux of this scripture🙏

The ESV translation "idle" isn't what the word means. Unruly, undisciplined, and disorderly are better translations than idle. This changes the entire discussion of the passage. There is a distinction that Paul makes specifically between unruly and idleness in 1Th 3:7-8.

Very good point. You referenced '1'Thess 3:7-8, did you mean '2'Thess 3:7-8? It does appear that he's addressing unruliness & also idleness in 2 Th 3:6-8. But, in verse 11 it looks like he is addressing the same group - "For we hear that some among you are walking in an unruly manner, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies" their doing no work & being busybodies. So I take it that they are busy being unruly while not working.

(1 Thessalonians 5:12, ESV) We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, (1 Thessalonians 5:13, ESV) and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. (1 Thessalonians 5:14, ESV) And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all. (1 Thessalonians 5:15, ESV) See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. (1 Thessalonians 5:16, ESV) Rejoice always, (1 Thessalonians 5:17, ESV) pray without ceasing, (1 Thessalonians 5:18, ESV) give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:19, ESV) Do not quench the Spirit. (1 Thessalonians 5:20, ESV) Do not despise prophecies, (1 Thessalonians 5:21, ESV) but test everything; hold fast what is good. (1 Thessalonians 5:22, ESV) Abstain from every form of evil.

Question: WHY does the ESV translate the word in 1Thess. 5:14 as "idle"? My NASB Strong's concordance says that word is " ataktos" (g0813 in Strong's) which means a (not) taktos (orderly/stated), which the NASB translates as "unruly"?
