I grew all the various Mahonias in Delaware. They remained evergreen throughout the year. In Houston. I kept a leather leaf in a pot and it reached six feet tall, remained evergreen even during the freeze and the brief snow. I have several mahonia in Austin that remain evergreen. One leather leaf barely reached two feet in over five years - location location.

Really great information. Thank you for the video. I would like to hear which plants are poisonous to pets or children, and which trees/shrubs not to plant near houses, driveways to prevent foundation damage. Especially my neighbors, lol.

What do you think of Mexican Sycamore trees? I'm looking for a fast growing and tall tree. I used to have some Silver Maples from a previous owner and they were constantly breaking branches and they became weak and died quickly.

Live Oak is a great native evergreen tree! You could also take a look at Magnolia or Cypress trees if you live in a wetter area.
