As mentioned by the other comments, it really hits different when you are fighting her, because whenever she uses a special move, you get a warning klaxon, and a massive nuclear symbol with WARNING WARNING WARNING scrolling across the screen. You are basically fighting an embodiment of nuclear fusion here, so yeah.

This character has so much Blackbird of Chernobyl and Yatagarasu symbolism designed into her. Her right foot is encased in concrete like the reactor is, she's purely a nuclear powered character. She has three "legs" like Yatagarasu (her arm cannon is her "third leg"), she has that deep red eye in her chest like the Blackbird, when you fight her you get klaxon sirens during multiple points of it and some of her attacks have images of the cats that "took over" the area around Chernobyl appear. And obviously, the large black wings are related to both. My favourite character from Touhou and my favourite theme.

This song is powerful and crazy enough but it really is so much more heightened in game with the attack sfx, the blaring warning sirens, and the screen suddenly being whited out as the boss just decides to throw mini suns at you. It's so intense you can almost feel the blazing heat.

She is a Hell Raven. You fight her in Hell. Inside of a nuclear reactor. After she devoured the god of sun, and in that battle, she has the ability to throw suns. She has 4 ornaments; her left arm has a something reminiscent of a nuclear rod, which is called her "3rd leg", In her right leg, she has the Elphant's Foot (one of the most radioactive things) in her left leg she has electrons surrounding her leg, reminiscent of an atom. And in her chest, she has the Eye of Yatagarasu, the god that she ate to gain the power over nuclear fusion. In the game, you are literally trying to prevent her from blowing everything up after she goes mad with power

I love how strong the bass is Fun fact: ZUN put both a shredding electric guitar and a saw synth over the ZUNpet to make it even more powerful and harder and giving the ZUNpet some more depth, you can especially hear them in the intro and the interlude at 0:44 with the saw on the left ear and the guitar overlayed with the ZUNpet and shreds at 0:49 Also there is an up and down motion of notes being played by a square synth and rhythmic notes being played by a clav and e-piano, both being in the background

Ooh! I’ve never played a Touhou game, but it was a remix of this track that introduced me to the series properly. This is the Stage 6 Boss/Final Boss theme for Touhou 11. From what I recall hearing, ZUN intentionally created this song to be more of a traditional final boss theme than his usual fare for the Stage 6 bosses up to this point.

The track itself is already good, but like other Touhou tracks, it gets even better when you know the context and hear it in game (or watch the gameplay video). 10:41 It's unfortunate that "Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke" lost the vote. To be honest, it's not really related to the theme of "fire", but in my opinion, it's just as good as "Flight of the Bamboo Cutter ~ Lunatic Princess" or even better, I'm very confident to say that you'll love it too.

Jesse: I just had a really dumb thought... Okuu: Me too, bro, me too. The prologue to this game is my favorite. A group from our world miss easy access to electricity, so they decide the best thing to do is create a nuclear fusion power plant in the place that used to be literal Hell (Hell was relocated a few hundred years ago). In order to get the power plant working, the aforementioned group find the literal dumbest animal in former Hell (Utsuho) and feed her the corpse of a sun god to give her the powers of the sun. Not metaphorical sun powers, literal sun powers, aka fusing hydrogen atoms to create energy. Utsuho then goes mad with power and the plot of the game is you have to stop her from urning everything to ash.

I've always thought the descending piano pattern at the beginning of this song was supposed to emulate a sort of siren sound. In the game there actual sirens that play before the characters attack patterns. It's funny to see you kind of catch on to that, it makes me much more impressed with ZUN's composition.

Utsuho's shtick ingame is basically extreme firepower, meaning bullets in the form of suns being hurled at you, attacks mimicking atoms reacting and the last one essentially makes her become a sun, drawing matter (bullets and the player) toward her, while her hitbox grows larger and larger. Her arm is a nuclear fusion rod and the back of her cape mimics the universe. So I'd argue it is less about "fire" as in typical fire-shapes directly, but about power, heat and energy. In terms of lore, she was given the power of nuclear fusion by some gods from Youkai Mountain (where Touhou 10 takes place). She's the final boss of Touhou 11 and was considered by most (up until Touhou 15 was released - damn you Clownpiece!!!) the most difficult boss on normal and hardmode. Ahhh I can't wait for what other Touhou songs have been requested. Hoping to see that Hartmann's Youkai Girl and True Administrator one day.

Ah, the theme song for my favorite touhou character... I had her as my profile picture on pretty much everything since middle school when I discovered touhou. I only changed to something else a few years back, but she is still my pfp on my Google account and a few other things. But still that's a lifetime in internet years. Something about her being about nuclear fusion and other advanced technology in her game compared to the eastern fantasy that the rest of the series is just made me love her. Touhou has the equivalent of 3 fire using characters. Utsuho here is literally a bird brain who has eaten lord yatagarasu and absorbed his power of the black sun to help with hell's nuclear reactor. Yes she is a hell raven who lives in old hell and shoots mini suns at enemies. The other 2 fire characters are mokou, an immortal with pheonix fire like powers and eternal rival/enemy of kaguya, the charcter of the theme lunatic princess. And the last is futo, a taosit who uses fire but is more associated with dinner plates. Others do use fire, cause magic, but not as much as these 3.

That's just how it sounds. IMO a lot of Touhou tracks from this time (c. 2008) generally had comparatively dull/muted/warm prod. on percussion, bass, etc. This track definitely much moreso than others, though. TBH it's kind of a nice contrast against earlier and later Touhou music.
