Touhou 5 - Mystic Square - Perfect Lunatic Shinki (Max Rank)

The previous perfect wasn't actually done under the hardest circumstances so here's a better one. Ya happy now Baity? :V
Shinki is so much easier than Yumeko it's ridiculous.
The first two phases can actually be a bit annoying on max rank. The difficulty is directly related to the distance Shinki is away from you. And she can go really low on the screen if she wants to.
The next phases are pure dodging and the first purple one can easily be done by remembering a few safespots.
I try to handle "Devil's Recition" like I do "Danmaku Paranoia". The bullets are directly aimed and I only move when one is in collision course for my hitbox. Although this requires some luck in the final phase but it's the best way I've found to handle it.

I can just imagine Shinki getting more and more frustrated as the fight progresses, and eventually culminating with her putting so much power into her attacks and trying SO hard to kill you that she literally razes Makai to the ground in collateral damage. I like to think that that's why Reimu and the yōkai got together and created the Spell Card Rules between the events of Touhou 5 and 6: to prevent Gensokyo going the same way if a clash of that scale ever happened again. -Yes I know it was really the incident involving some vampire that may or may not have been Remilia before the events of 6 that caused the rules to be put in place but I can dream shush-

The perfect idea of a villainous breakdown mixed with a cosmic temper tantrum. Shinki starts off confident that she can defeat this insolent Shrine Maiden, this "dog of the gods" confronting her now, and suddenly Reimu starts to gradually harm her more and more with her sutra volley. Shinki brushes Reimu's attacks off as mere scratches, but the more damage she takes, the more she weakens, the more Shinki's confidence withers, and the more Shinki starts to get angrier. At the moment that her wings turn purple, she is starting to give into feral anger, and starts to let out indiscriminate attacks that starts to bombard Makai. I can imagine Reimu suddenly growing horrified as Shinki starts to rant and yell about how she can't be beaten by a mere priestess, and she tries to call out to her that at this rate, she'll cause irreparable damage to her own realm, but Shinki doesn't listen. By the time Shinki has completely razed Makai and is unleashing her final attack, she has lost any and all care for anything around her and is screaming in rage, disbelieving as to how a mere human can best the queen of Gensokyo's equivalent to Hell, and why Reimu won't simply just die despite Shinki pouring all of her demonic power out against our heroic miko. A common fan interpretation regarding the end of the fight is that Shinki was ultimately killed at the end of the battle, as she exerted so much magical power that by the moment she was defeated, she couldn't even cast a measly non-spell, and died of overexertion. And her precious Makai lay in ruins. Also, the battle with Alice in the Extra Stage happens in the void left behind in Makai's wake after Shinki pretty much annihilated it.

@@lancecurry7538 Shinki has any right to be angry since she does nothing wrong with this so called "demon invasion incident" when in reality it was Makai Traveling Agency's fault who let Makai people ilegally cross border to take a vacation. A harmless minor problem that turns into chaos because Reimu and Marisa misunderstood the situation, then doubled down by Mima who help just so she can take Shinki's throne and Yuuka who just want to fight someone strong. Shinki wasn't the bad guy. It was the main characters all along.

I think there are many valid interpretations about the ramifications of Mystic Square, ranging from "nothing of consequence came from this" all the way to "Makai's daemonic invasion of Gensokyo completely changed the paradigm of the realm forever and forced Yukari to literally rewrite the rules on how magic worked in the world to save it from total annihilation."

Think about it. That is epic. Reimu arrives in order to stop the demonic invasion. Here, the creator of all the devils is waiting for her, thinking she'll defeat her easy. "Shrine maidens are just dogs of gods", she says. However, her opponent is too powerful. She lets her demonic power control herself gradually, and actually burn and destroy her own demon world because of this fight. If ANYBODY tells me this is just a little girls' game...

Reimu) whom put it into action, evident that they don't exist here, but exist in 6.

Like, I know that it was canonically Remilia's emergence that forced the creation of the Spell Card System, but meta-wise, Shinki's penultimate attack was -- aside from EX stage Alice -- the last big attack we saw from Touhou before Rumia declared the first Spell Card... and, who knows, maybe Alice unleashing her full power in TH5 is what rewrote the PC98 canon and turned the Devil a Vampire? It doesn't make sense on Reimu's route since Makai is not destroyed on that route and the incident aren't resolved as illegal migration are still happening and even Shinki apologize to Reimu for not keeping her promise resolving the illegal border crossing problem (My theory is even if Shinki create the residents of Makai, she give them free will so that's why she doesn't want to control her people she created). But on the other hand it makes sense on Marisa, Mima, and Yuuka's route since they have their selfish reason and on the ending it's seen that Makai people are afraid of them to the point of running away if they see those 3 individuals. And based on the ending, these 3 routes are chronologically happen after Reimu's route. 2. Either people wanted Mima back because of her relationship with Marisa, and basically want more information about both of them. Or people just doing it for the memes because I doubt people played PC98 games anyway, let alone understanding that Mima is a jerk.

​@@moh.syafrianabie8899 I mean, assuming Marisa, Yuuka, and mima's routes happen after Reimu's, I feel like the reason the Makai residents are afraid of Marisa, Yuuka, and Mima is because of the fact that they've already dealt with Reimu and thus wouldn't have expected 3 other beings from Gensokyo to attack them in a row. Them being selfish wouldn't equate to Shinki deciding to drop what is essentially a nuke onto her own world. If anything, I'd imagine her being annoyed at them, but not THAT destructive. Hell, she seemed pretty calm while talking with the three in Stage 5, only getting serious during the final stage (and while she doesn't like what Yuuka said about Makai, she wasn't seething with rage or anything, and she even says Yuuka wasn't "important enough" to deal with for Yumeko, though she allows Yumeko to fight her anyways). And even if you apply the fact that the SCR likely didn't exist, it doesn't make sense to me why people only apply the logic to Shinki and not other Pc-98 characters that are probably just as strong as she is (take Gengetsu for example; not only does she use GIANT lasers, but her final time-out is one of the hardest attacks in the series. By that logic, does she end up destroying the Dream World just because of two intruders who were bothering her and her sister?). Did they also cause meaningless destruction? Or do people overlook that fact just because Shinki's the only one who has a convenient background change? This leads me to believe a) Shinki's even stupider than Cirno and Utsuho if mere intruders are enough to push her that far, b) other Pc-98 characters are just as guilty as she is when it comes to collateral damage, or c) people are taking a game from 1998 way too seriously for their own good.

Canonically Byakuren was sealed away in Hokkai, which is a part of Makai (You know, Shinki's world). So the chance that they met and that Shinki taught her Devil's Recitation is pretty high.

In fact, I even find it highly unlikely that it did. First of all since, after the events of Mystic Square, Reimu tries to talk Shinki into putting a stop to all of the denizens of Makai coming to Gensoukyou and secondly because the PCs visit Makai in UFO... I really don't think what you said earlier, about Hokkai being located "above" Shinki's Makai, makes any sense, either. If it's "above" Shinki's Makai in a sense where you can say that "the two as a whole is referred to as Makai", then it'd still be located in the same dimension. I.e., Hokkai would also have gone buh-bye along with Shinki's Makai... (I also cannot find any sources backing up your claim that ZUN has said Shinki lied about being a god.)

So in PC-98 the spellcard rules didn't exist until Touhou 6 Basically they're fighting for life and death right here. I mean, Reimu as a human and a powerful ass shrine maiden she'd actually stand a chance against Shinki even without spellcard rules.

Well, in the sense that it never actually _focused_ your firepower, no, there wasn't focus until Touhou 6. But in Touhou 4 and Touhou 5 you could still hold down shift to slow your movements.
