I love this game so much I had to play it 3 times. First I gameovered at 99.61% completion with 2 bombs in stock (I captured Killing Doll 😭😭😭), second I turned on autobomb for the final spell as to not lose the run but the replay broke and that's kind of cheating and so the third run is the one you see here and I'm actually quite happy with it despite it having the lowest score out of the three. If I only captured Remilia's 2nd and 3rd spell which I'm able to capture 75% of the time it would've been high score.
Playing this game on Lunatic really opened my eyes as to how dodge most obstacles on lower difficulties because here you can't dodge it any other way. As for the game itself, Stage 1 & 2 are very consistent. Every run got at least to Cirno without much trouble which I can't say about some other games where escaping Stage 1 is almost impossible. Stage 3 is also pretty consistent, the only hiccup being getting bad RNG in the first half. Meiling is a joke. Stage 4 is the only problem here as you can't really die here if you want to 1cc. It has the most RNG elements which may not work in your favor. Patchouli also serves a problem with her stupid nonspells and spells which are either the easiest in the game or can give bad RNG and wall you (Bury in Lake, Water Elf, Emerald Gigalith). Stage 5 is the easiest stage out of them all. Just stand in safespots and bomb when necessary. Sakuya is also not a problem unless you get bad RNG on the nons or Jack the Ludobile. Getting to Stage 6 with at least 3 lives is a must if you want to win. Remilia's nons are piss easy and the spells you can bomb. Like I mentioned earlier, the 2nd and 3rd spell don't pose a problem unless you gat bad RNG. Then just survive.
What I like about the game is the consistency it presents. Apart from few RNG elements you can almost always clear it the same way. Playing Kaikidan & Koumakyou back to back shows how many ideas were reused and that ZUN's design philosophy hasn't yet changed since the PC-98 days. Both games have very consistent first 2 stages, the first having goffy ahh bullets and the second having rocks/ice falling from the sky, a Stage 3 which can only pose a problem when fighting the boss, very long Stage 4 which ramps up the difficulty and has the most RNG elements with a boss that's easy if you master it, Stage 5 in which you finally enter the main part of the enemy's lair starting out with spam, fighting a midboss with static patterns followed by a spam attack of all fairy types ending with a fight against the head maid and a short Stage 6 where you fight the mastermind at the end of said place.
Over 2 years ago, during my EoSD Normal 1cc livestream, I said that I would never touch Lunatic. Now look at where we are now. I've come full circle.
