I swear, there are so many variations of Okuu's Control Rod we got from what I've seen: The original octagonal cannon a rectangular prism version original but gets larger halfway through a much more futuristic black and blue cannon and this .50 cal sniper rifle cannon

Good point consider it's the only canon piece of machinery in touhou (aside from Nitori's optical stealth), I still think they need to stop going overkill with it though, it's a control rod in its own right, not a bloody weapon (though it's still can be used as one).

A control rod works by absorbing neutrons, was most likely that in hisoutensoku, that utsuho then channeled the absorbed neutrons into a beam discharge.
