If only the world were based on music, rather than avarice or military might, Mali would be a superpower. Merci Toumani et le jeune prince. ;-) I was privileged to see Master Toumani in Cape Town at St George's Cathedral in about 2013 or 2014. Spellbinding, and Jarabi and his other music became the soundtrack to my husband's and my love affair.

Hello Toumani and Sidiki Diabate, I am an Eritrean and the victims of the Lampedusa tragedy were almost exclusively Eritreans. The worst part of the tragedy is that the regime in Eritrea didn't want to acknowledge the victims as Eritreans the national TV referred to them as "African migrants" and never allowed their loved ones to bury them in their homeland. I thank you on behalf of all Eritreans and their family for composing this very beautiful music in their memory. Eyasu From Johannesburg

What a beautyful sounding instrument, but also the amplified version with the wah pedal sounds amazing. This music just brings you in another world and you forget about everything that bothered you. I'm rediscovering the music that I first heard in the middle 80's, when world music made a boom in the Netherlands, but now just commercial, artificial sounding music makes it on the radio, and this music is forgotten about. But luckily I can decide for myself where to listen to on youtube, and thanks to the people uploading this.
