I always appreciated the fact that they kept it fairly authentic to period in that the house was pretty small. Also, if you will notice, the ladies only had just a two or three dresses like they would have owned at that time. Even when Laura started teaching, she only had the one nice dress. I always appreciated that attention to detail.

Having grown up on a working farm the house was used mostly for eating and sleeping. The rest of the time was spent outside working. My Mum and Aunts spent the majority of the day preparing meals and washing up. I always liked this series as it depicted farm life quite accurately and showed how a good or bad crop decided if you would have a good or bad winter. Amazing tour ... right down to the crack in the plaster in the bedroom. This episode was spot on! Thank you as always for bringing so many great memories back. ❤🏡

I am so glad that I found this video!! Thank you for sharing it with all of us. Little House on the Prairie was one of my favorite shows growing up,(as well as "The Waltons"). I always loved the design of the Ingalls home, as depicted on the tv series. I think that today it would be perfect for anyone interested in building a tiny home and/or off grid living. With a south facing orientation, the pitch of the roof would be perfect for solar panels.
@StarchildMagic7 ай бұрын
As I recall, Willy and Nellie's bedrooms were up those stairs in the mercantile, and the door in the back led to a very fancy parlor and dining room. I agree that the Ingalls home was by far the home-iest in all of Walnut Grove, because it was filled with so much family laughter and love. Thank you so much for making this video!

I moved into a dorm in college in August 1985. Two of my fraternity brothers lived next door and they watched little house on the prairie every weekday from 2-3pm and we would go eat dinner at 3:30. We gave them a hard time for liking the show and they gave my roommate and I a hard time for watching the cartoon GI Joe from 3-3:30. They both graduated in May 1987 and 1 is a Facebook friend. It doesn't look to me like they would have had room. But this wasn't the first family where the parents had to, shall we say, be very careful to keep an eye out for when the children were asleep. And they won't be the last. To this day, there are plenty of families in impoverished countries who live in huts where the parents deal with the same problem.

Although the house was modest, I'm sure it was built sturdy and well because Charles built it himself with all the integrity that was him. Great work- I love what you do. This show was very much part of growing up for me; I would have been around Laura's age, and I watched, usually with my mom, from the pilot film on. I have a vivid memory- accurate or not- of the house being surrounded by wolves at night and the family trapped inside. Years later this came back to me in a dream in a very uncertain moment in my life. I was leaving for art school, across the country in California in a few days, extremely nervous about it, and I dreamed I was in that house, surrounded by wolves. Every time they attacked I had a perfect weapon in hand and everyone was safe. I woke up feeling great. It was my mind's way of telling me I was equal to the challenge and was going to be o.k. Too bad they didn't make the loft like in On the Banks of Plum Creek. In that book the loft went across the whole length of the house..If they built the loft that way on Little House, the Ingallses would have had more room in the loft when they adopted Albert, and then James and Cassandra. They could have used half the loft for Albert and James, and half for Carrie and Cassandra.

As always, I LOVE your channel and I loved seeing this particular house. As with a ton of little girls who grew up in the 1970's, I know I am not alone in that I would think that I was secretly in that bedroom too....during all the times that they were on tv. Little House on the Prairie was such a wonderful show. Wish there were more shows of that caliber on TV now days. Thanks for showing us the inside in all of its awesome details. Great job!

The desk upstairs was brilliant. It was the time of education changing your future. They prioritized it over a dresser. Besides they usually hung their dress to air out and wore day after day, except Sunday best.

I have always thought I am the only one who pays attention to, and obsesses over, home details like this. I do believe "Caroline" had a dresser behind the stone fireplace wall where she brushed her hair, directly under the loft dresser. Thank you for sharing this! What fun to re-live this pleasant space.❤

I grew up watching this TV Show and loved it. Loved when Charles built that house and seen other houses that were lovelier, but hey, when it's only one man building it, I'd say that it was awesome. I noticed though when the video was touring the main part of the house, through the one window, there was a white picket fencing. Sorry, but I've never seen any fences around their house in the series though and there was no trees directly in front of that window either. Across from their 'road' there was a huge field and to the right of that house, through that same window, was their barn. There was also an outhouse in front of that barn ... up the hill, facing the house and later a guest house was added. Oh, how we used to have great TV shows. Love love love your channel and how you show us so much of what we took for granted back then. Thank you.

Glad you like the channel. It took me so long to make these 3 homes [150 hours] there just wouldn't be time to make all of the things we see out the windows. I would love to though. Maybe someday.

Grew up watching this show. The Ingalls house was so efficiently designed and you really got the sense that everything in it was made by one person. And yes, even the other simple country homes always had a tiny bit of "luxury" the Ingalls never had, even if it was just a single plush chair or rooms separated by a door. My favorite scenes always involved Mrs Olesen or Nellie. Plus I always had rather "fancy" taste as a child (🙄) so I enjoyed scenes in the Olesen's Victorian parlor. Although I did think it'd be cool to have a loft bedroom!

Yeah that about finer things. The freestanding fireplace seems modern to me. And the windows in the house seem generous. I don’t know much about pioneer houses but it still feels authentic. Interesting about having a clean, simple house and Laura’s perceptions. Set design must be interesting. It’s historical yet getting a certain idea across. Cheers thanks much

Fantastic video, Marina! LHOTP was one of my favorite TV shows growing up. It brings back a lot of comforting memories. Your attention to detail is phenomenal. It was so fun to see your daughter too! She is a sweetheart. ❤️As a child growing up in a difficult financial and difficult family situation, I used to dream of having a strong family like the Ingalls. I identified closely with their poverty. One of my favorite episodes is when Laura found fool’s gold and had a hilarious daydream sequence where the Ingalls were rich and the Oleson’s were poor.😂Anyway, thanks for making my day! Howdy from TX🤠

As usual, very nice. I grew up watching Little House on the Prairie and I loved it. There was talk of a reboot, but I am sure they scrapped the idea. I doubt it would sell today. Come classics can't be duplicated.
