I do live here under MM2H and he is paying for the location. I have a 3 bedroom, 1,600 sqft flat with balcony and paying 2850 RM/ month near MidValley Megamall. Depends on where you want to be but his view his fantastic. By the way, does he mean 700 USD or 700 AUSSIE dollars? That would make a big difference.

Everything is overpriced in the US. They print free money till it's practically nearly worthless in US.....in US....need tons of money to survive on decent living, decent healthcare and services.....that can get at merely a fraction of most US citizens pay in their home country......elsewhere.

I admire your motivation to uproot from home and go seek new surroundings while still earning a living. KL is going to be a must see place for me before too long, but not has a place for location independent working. I'm about 5-ish years away from retirement and I'm patiently waiting to see what the Malaysian government will do regarding the MM2H program that is currently under review. Fingers crossed they structure something that is similar to the pre-covid MM2H program (which was very popular). With more realistic requirements, my pension will be more than enough to live comfortably in KL. Cheers. ☺

Malaysia welcomes affluent individuals and families, not the mediocre or even the very high net worth ones. That's why the requirement is monthly offshore, onshore income of US$9,000 a month including minimum liquid assets of ~US$300,000. It's not that high really, for those who want to base out of South East Asia.
@jfk5402 Жыл бұрын
Do agree Malaysia is absolutely a good place to retire. But I wouldn't get my hopes too high that they will dial back the requirements dramatically to match what was before. They may just make small tweaks such as lowering monthly income to perhaps $7-8K from the current $9-10K. The goal of the program is not to provide retirement places for the global masses but to attract affluent individuals/families who can help Malaysian economy. Personally I think the low requirement days are over.

How was the sound bleed from neighboring apartments? Are there any housecleaning services offered? On-site laundry? On-site restaurant?
@JackAlderton8 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for your questions. No sound bleed at all, but I was on a high floor. i only had one neighbour, as each block is very private. They had their door open all the time but I couldn't hear them unless I also opened my door.Only minor concern might be the pool - it's fairly open and neighbouring buildings can see. There's no dedicated housecleaning, but it's super easy to find good cleaners in KL. There's a laundry service in the building/condo next door & surrounded by lots of restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk. Thanks for watching!

@JackAlderton Жыл бұрын
Hi Jason, yes it's a good idea for a video. Primarily you'll want to secure an employment pass to stay semi-permantently, otherwise you'll be stuck with 3 month tourist visas with border crossings. If you have a lot of money, the process for MM2H would be much more straightforward and flexible. Hope that helps!

Well done video presentation. Especially like the time saver, chapters, captions you provided. Shows respect as well as good/great organization skills. Am guessing Aria (et al.) will be going up in price after the news gets out and demand goes up. Wondering what you think re: the MM2H rules that just came out recently requiring 1 Million Ringgits bank deposit (from foreigners looking to live/move to Malaysia) ? ($215K USD)
@JackAlderton Жыл бұрын
Appreciate your comment and kind words - thank you for the feedback! Yes, it does look that way, it's probably up on when I signed the lease so this is something to keep in mind. As for the MM2H, I can't say I quite understand the logic. Attracting foreign capital and inflows is beneficial and I think increasing the requirements significantly makes it a much less feasible option, especially compared to other surrounding countries. Hard for me to say though, I'd trust they changed the requirements for a reason/there is at least some data/modelling to back up the logic.

That looks like a really great place! In another KZbinr's video tour of a different complex, he showed the gym, and said it's fairly warm (ie: uncomfortable). How's the temperature in Aria's gym? Also, I work from home, but I require hard-wired internet. Not just wifi. Is that a possibility in Aria, to have a router/modem?
@JackAlderton Жыл бұрын
Hey Gabriel! The gym is cool enough (aircon). I usually jump right in the pool after either way. For the internet, yes you can wire it to the router but might need to run a long cable depending on where they set it up. My friend and her family booked a two week holiday in Australia but after a week they returned home as they found it so boring. But my cousin's daughter is a vet in Sydney. My three nephews also work in Melbourne and another cousin, who's a physiotherapist, has lived in Australia for maybe more than 20 years. I've never been as I've never been attracted at all to Australia. Also I heard it's very expensive.
@JackAlderton Жыл бұрын
Sorry but your friend and her family sound like they are the boring ones. Australia has probably the most diverse natural landmass in the world, not to mention holding multiple of the top 'liveable' cities (as much as I disagree with that term) - it literally has everything that every other country has so i'm not sure how anyone could be bored, unless they stay in their room all day. The major cities are very expensive, yes that is definitely true and a con for living there, as for other western major cities.
@aridyaacob9528 Жыл бұрын
@@JackAlderton my other family members seem to like it there. As I said my three nephews work there after having graduated from the university of Melbourne about 4 years ago and my youngest sis stayed in Perth for about 8 years. Hi, thank you! Welcome to Malaysia. Sure, use iproperty or propertyguru and deal with licensed agents only. You can use FB marketplace but I think it's risky/you're asking for problems. No, all paid with a contract via bank transfer. Only requirement would be passport and possible visa information but it may depend on your nationality. And a deposit is normal for a longer term contract. There are some differences here, as in they will ask for your race. It's not good at all, but it is what it is. Hi, I am very sensitive to sound. Staying on high floors of 5* hotels, I can still hear lots of sound, for example from motorbikes, mosques and bars. Are you sure you can't hear any sound at all? I heard people say that before, saying it is dead quiet, but when I try myself, there is still a lot of sound, so others are probably better at ignoring it. Please let me know, as I have been on a long search to find a really quiet place to live.

Hi there! Personally i hear very little to the point that it doesn't bother me at all (windows soundproof), but if you are particularly sensitive it's hard for me to say. BUT I will point out that there are 2 towers in the complex, A and B. Mine is in block A which is closer to the road, and in theory, louder. Block B is quieter still but it's also a little bit more expensive. I would recommend viewing a condo and seeing what it's like - hope you find what you're after!

Hey mate, you do have to pay on top. Electricity and water is super simple as it stays in the name of the owner, you just pay the bill. Any idea what a three bedroom unit cost per month?
@JackAlderton6 ай бұрын
Hey Trent, totally depends on location and the reputation of the building. You can find a three bedroom from 2k rm within 15 mins to KLCC, up to 4k rm for a pretty good one in KLCC.

Hello Jack, what did it cost you to move in?
@JackAlderton9 ай бұрын
Hey! You have to cover a 3 month deposit, other than that, not much as it all condos come fully furnished!

How do you rent that condo? No one seems to rent short-term. Do you have a contact ?
@JackAlderton10 ай бұрын
I was on a yearly lease - you're right it's hard to rent short-term at the best places. If you can't commit to a lease, I'd suggest 'speedhome' (no bond required) or a serviced apartment that will set you up with a long-term stay discount. If you shoot me an email or DM on socials I can send you the details of my agent, but I'm not sure they'll be able to help with short-term rents. Let me know how you go!

Great video! Can I ask HOW you went about finding this apartment? Like are they for sale and you are renting from a private owner or would I go to the Aria KL website and be able to rent from there?
@JackAlderton7 ай бұрын
Hi there, thank you! Yes you should definitely use iproperty or propertyguru and enquire with a reputable (registered) agent. Almost all of them are, particularly for higher end condos. Renting from a private owner, dealing with an agent. The process is smooth and you're treated very well. I personally believe KL is the best (or one of the best) rental markets in the world.

Hi Jack, really love you video. Can I ask, that do you need to be on a long term visa such as MM2H, or Working visa in order to have this long term lease? If we are on a holiday which only gives us 90 days visa, bet we can't have such a cheap $700 monthly rent condo, right?
@JackAlderton Жыл бұрын
Hey Raymond, yes that's most likely the case. You might be able to sign a lease, but it's strictly 12 months only. You could try a site like speedhome, but you end up paying double the market rate or so. Airbnb would then be the best option. Hope you're able to get what you're after!

haha for sure bro. Squash is available but probably not as popular as in Aus. Golf is everywhere, you can play well here but it more runs off a membership model

How hard is the visa process?
@JackAlderton Жыл бұрын
Depends on your situation. For me it was a little difficult as I moved during 2021. Otherwise it's simple process if you get a job here. If you just want to visit, most countries will get 3 months at a time, which is easy to renew. Retirement they've made a lot harder, I wouldn't recommend it unless you have the resources.

Hi! Honestly I don't think you will find a place that has all the same amenities within an even remotely reasonable price range. My studio (tiny) was $400 AUD a week. A high-end 1 bedroom apartment in a great area will cost $600+ a week!
