I love my CoolCamp XL! This is a great value for the money! Steve and his family are great to work with and produce a quality product. For anyone who just wants to go camping (not glamping) this is the real deal. I pull mine with a 2016 Chevy Impala (1,000 lb towing limit) and it tows straight, stable, and effortlessly. If you are an Android user download the ParkAdvisor app. For Apple users it is AllStays. This is really an excellent app for finding campgrounds.

Great alternative to a tent. We don't own one of these, but we have tent camped A LOT. We got a cab-over camper for our truck now, because the dampness in a tent can cause back pain, ect. And when the people who camp next to you are a problem, you can just drive away. No hassles. Not so with a tent. When it rains tents are muddy and have to be dried out to store (mildew free) If we didn't all ready have the cab-over we would buy one of these. Gas mileage would be better and you can move about without the "fun" of have to put the tent up at every new spot. I think these are well worth considering.

3 years later and this company has grown so much! Unfortunately their prices have too but so has their quality and it’s still a great deal . I plan to buy their off road V series and live full time in it. I love how they offer a lot of different options and you can get everything you need and nothing you don’t want
@harrymills2770 Жыл бұрын
Yes, the prices went up, but not as much as most others and they started out among the lowest. And it wasn't just price hikes. They improved the materials and construction along the way. And you and I are both paying extra for the V-Series features, like the off-road wheels and tires, Timbren suspension and the Max Coupler hitch. I like a company that improves the basics rather than just adding frills. The minute a huckster starts in on the galley "everyone's raving about" I tune out. Tell me how it's built, what materials are used, and what components are used. I hope you're choosing to live in one and not forced to. A person could really stretch their money living that way. Harder in some ways. Easier in others.

This is stellar. I’m just in the beginning of planning on how to get on the road, considering the different options that I might be able to afford. I’m in that low SS income bracket- $800 mo. I don’t even have a car yet. And I’m flat broke! LOL. My dog has been having chronic ear infections for the last year and a half so every penny goes to the vet. Anyway... I had been thinking of doing the mini-van camper as something I might be able to afford. But I just love this. It gives me hope that I’ll be able to do it. The owner seems like a really nice man.

East coasters, one option for pickup might be to take the Amtrak AutoTrain from Lorton VA to Sanford FL and camp your way back home. The AutoTrain southbound can be very inexpensive in the spring when the snow birds are heading back north. It's quite a ride and one that everyone should do at least once. Good food, friendly fellow passengers and a low stress journey south.

Very informative video, especially listening to the owner explain the different models. My biggest concern is for older people as myself and sleeping on a 4" piece of memory foam. My back just can't stand that. I wonder if there is any other option available for bedding. These campers are primarily used to sleep in and stay out of the weather and afford some type of basic security which a tent does not give. I like the luggage rack option that one can attach an awning to that gives shade and a place to sit to view the campsite and scenery. Will weigh the options and look into purchasing one of these units.

I seen some negative comments about "I can get a cargo trailer for the same price and can stand up" there is one thing one must understand cargo trailers are bulky and heavy empty and you need a truck to hall it. These campers are for small vehicles 4 and 6 kickers. I would buy if they have doors on both sides. I will stop buy sometime when I'm in Ocala maybe in march. The only way to know is to get in one and see if it's roomy enough to sleep two in. Thanks for posting.

Great idea but if you have access to tools very buildable. I built 2 tiny travel trailers at a friends house who had a table saw and a miter saw. The first one I built out of cedar with black rubber roll roofing glued down on top. 4.5' x 8' x 4' tall with a kitchen box on the backside that also held 2 deep cycle batteries) cost me about $2500 to build 10 years ago. Towed it with a Pt Cruiser max tow weight was 1500lbs and I was way under it loaded to go camping. So there are options out there. That was my first woodworking project beyond a few birdhouses as a kid. I just read a lot on the web and watched a lot of youtube videos and planned it.

Wow! thank you, Bob, for this one! Had no idea there was something like this - so affordable AND with options and possibilities for "accessorizing." These little "stepups" from a tent really answer a niche need. e.g: For a woman who has to go overnight fishing by herself, but knows how unsafe that can turn out to be (and also has only a small 4-cylinder car for towing her "shelter"); these could be the easiest, safest, most economical answer. I also read, recently, that many State and/or National Parks have now banned camping in tents, because of increasing numbers of "Bear incidents" in the parks. Believe it or not, Coyotes and Black Bears have made a reappearance here, in Ohio, in the last few years. So, we have been warned. One more thing occurs to me: When one of many "Special Occasions," such as out-of-town or out-of-state weddings, family reunions, funerals, etc, would otherwise find you having to sleep on a relative's couch or floor, or spend money you may not have for a motel room; whereas, with one of these lightweight, locking campers, YOU have, instead, your own private "room" with your own comfy bed, clothing, toiletries, food 'n' beverage supply if necessary, etc, parked in their driveway or nearby. Just simplifies everything! Steve, you gave us A LOT of useful information, in a very concise and easy-to-understand format and a pleasant manner. You struck me as someone who would be easy to do business with. You really know your product, and seem customer oriented. Thank you. Bob, thanks for another excellent interview & video.
