Kerry Watson is the Librarian at Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, and is responsible looking after the collections of books and archive material housed in Modern 2. Books by artists make up part of that collection, and here Kerry shows us some highlights, including Henri Matisse’s (1869-1954) colourful Jazz (published 1947), and Tauba Auerbach’s sculptural ‘pop-up’ creation [2,3] of 2011. Artist's books are another form of artistic expression. Sometimes that are the work of one artist, others are collaborations between artist, poets, writers or friends of the artist. Artist's books are often produced in small numbers and can include anything from written words, prints, collage, photographs, cut-outs and host of other material. Kerry looks at an early book with contributions by Natalia Goncharova (1881-1962), and also examines a books by Calude Cahun (1894-1954).
Due to the current restrictions, these spaces are closed, but we hope you will enjoy this tour of the collection.

Lovely video. What I noticed is that Ellen Gallagher, who is listed at the end, doesn't appear in the video.

Beautiful collection, but having been trained in book restoration, and having restored books from the special collections of universities, I'm wondering why you are handling them without cotton gloves. Oils and acids are very easily transferred to paper.

Gloves can actually be bad for fragile books, because it reduces your manual dexterity while turning pages.
