Thanks for the journey through Wheeling, W. Va. I think Wheeling is a great city that's very underrated that's full of architectural gems. I just love old industrial city's that have bones and a great history. This city has a lot of potential to make a comeback! From the City of Brotherly L❤ve.Great vid!👍

Nice to watch a video of Wheeling from somebody who lived there. The place is looking pretty good with lots of work going on. Too many towns today becoming ghost towns. Hope it continues to get revamped and progressing. I lived there on the island until five years old and then moved to Martins Ferry. Left there in 1963 for a Air Force career and we settled here in Texas after that. Great vids. Continue the good work. My wife, also from MFO, loves to see the places where she used to shop. Thanks Ryan. FYI, I claim Wheeling as my home town...not MFO. Ha

When I was young the city streets were as busy as New York City. Steubenville Mall was built, and the city started to lose many businesses. I worked at Wheeling Pittsburg Steel in Beech Bottom after getting of the service. We went on strike for a year, it sucked I was young with a young family. My wife said it was the worst years ever in our lives. Moved to California for 15 years and then Montana for 15 years and now in Oregon and just retired and the wife and I just this month hit 48 years of marriage, thanks for memory lane.

Spent a lot of time in Wheeling in the early 70's. Quite a bustling town back then. Steel money, old money, snotty rich people. Went back there just a few years ago and saw it had turned into a run-down White ghetto, filled with empty store fronts and tattoo parlors. What a dump. And no Elby's to be found anywhere. Thanks for posting this video.

The city is going through a massive renovation for sure. A couple more years and it will be done. Crazy for the last 10 years. I believe the indoor football league is coming back this next season. Covid pretty much stopped that from happening the last few years. Covid devastasted the live entertainment and indoor sports activity for some time.
@bluerfoot5 ай бұрын
So you are saying it is improving and could a a good investment in your opinion?
@monmixer5 ай бұрын
@@bluerfoot From an observation point of view a lot of new business is coming into Wheeling. The city has it's own land bank so to speak from commercial properties in town that shut decades ago and let the property go into dis repair. The city will damn near pay you to take one of these buildings and or lots to place your business there if you can show your plans in advance and it looks good. They are creating inner city housing in some of these buildings. There are free events as the waterfront all summer. You can have blast downtown and never drive anywhere if you live in one of these buildings. It's all there within walking distance including jobs,.
@butchstaz5109Ай бұрын
@@monmixerwhat businesses are coming? They’ve lost way more than they have gained
@monmixerАй бұрын
@@butchstaz5109 Oh no, the entire downtown is currently being redone. There was big new hotel built coming into Wheeling. A huge new club called Waterfront Hall that is bringing in real entertainment. Not that locals are not real but locals want to see different things now and then. I could list new business for at least an hr. It's turning into a live downtown city. Loft apartments and many of the business's rent apartments out on top. Most of downtown is pretty much completely remodeled. Still under construction and real pain to get around and has been for 5 years but nobody is leaving. they keep coming. I do not live in wheeling. I'm very connected with many people who work for the city because I have worked in the Capitol Theatre since 1976 as a theatre technician. Of course I wasn't a tech in 76. I was a kid learning to be a tech. They are now planting in the new planters they built thru the entire business district. Finishing new sewer lines, water lines, gas, underground electric is all done. the bridges are completely redone. Next phase is paving and then it's close to over. Wheeling is doing very well. Far from a lost city. It was for about 10 or 15 years but it's coming back and strong. A lot of jobs are in this area right now. Heavily fracked and coal mines are still working. We had a tin mill close not far up the river from Wheeling and a new manufacturer has already taken that building. I hated that city most of my life but they are finally fixing it.

This was on a Sunday so there wasn’t much going on. Unfortunately a lot of businesses have closed or moved out of the downtown over the last 20 years

Retail is long gone from wheeling. They have the river but have not attempted to develop it. They build 31m dollar parking garages and spend money on useless buildings Not to be negative but this administration has no business or management background and it shows
@butchstaz51095 ай бұрын
This administration has lost far more businesses then they have gained although they try to tell you different. It’s a bunch of non business non real estate people in office they have ruined what was left of wheeling

Interesting that this city is considered in the "south" probably very cold a considerable part of the year.
@gprend695 ай бұрын
Well, it's not really in the south. Wheeling is above the Mason-Dixon line and during the civil war, seceeded (?) from Virginia and became West (by God) Virginia. In fact, the pan-handle area tried to become part of Ohio...but that wasn't happenin'.
