My little yard is just what grows. Lavender and rosemary.... bermuda grass.. for our Sonaran Desert Tortoise.

I agree. Planting a variety, a food forest, is the way to go. It helps us with food productivity but also helps the pollinators and wildlife.

It's the first time I hear someone say flowers attract birds and birds get rid of many bad insects. I have to keep that in mind. Although the birds eat my cherries 😂

Have you ever tried Jerusalem artichoke (topinambour in french)? I have some here, and it's very, very productive! It's in the sunflower family and you eat the roots (they look a little like potatoes). It is perennial, but you can harvest them every automn (after the first frosts) or at spring and just bury back the ones you don't want (so they can multplie).
