This week we are having a tour of my shrub border which I started last year. Overhung by some mature trees, this area is a dappled shade area with some more sunnier spots towards the front of the border. This border is in its infancy but now that it is almost completely planted up it can start to mature. Some of the plants are from last year and have already bulked up and some are new to this year and are still trying to settle in. Don't get put off by the chainlink fence behind the border. You can see it now and it is a bit of an eyesore, but within the next 2-3 years you won't be able to see it. The shrubs I have chosen will grow upwards and outwards and form a tapestry. Finding the right plants in Spain isn't always easy and many have to be brought in from other countries or other parts of Spain. I am looking for year around interest and different textures and colours. I am really looking forward to seeing this area mature.
