The metal fabrication shop I worked at in Kenner, La. for 25 years built the aluminum bow sampling towers for this ship during the 1990's. It looked like a multi-level scaffold, maybe 25' tall to mount instruments to the top and that walkway shown at 6:40 cantilevering out from the tower, over the bow to get water samples. It was fabricated and erected like an Erector Set so it could set up and taken down "easily". Thanks for the tour. It's always satisfying to see the fruits of our labor.

No prob! Thanks for the comment and your hard work! I have a few more tour videos, primarily of the interior of the ship if interested. Many great memories on board and glad I’ve gotten to experience some of Healy’s history :)

There are a few other tours of the Healy on the channel so make sure you check them out! They give a better sense of what it’s like to live onboard.

I expected there to be teleporters, but I don't think Aperture would reveal such stuff.

The first thing that caught my eye and gave me pause to scratch my head, is seeing a small crane truck tide to the dock, i guess his air brakes are out? 😂😂
@MargoLAB Жыл бұрын
I’m not too familiar with the cranes or their operation but I know they’d bring a number of them to the ship, since it only has a few cranes with limited capability.

@MargoLAB actually I just revisited the beginning because I just couldn't find the logic, Well I found the logic 😂 my eyes were deceiving me, the line is to the boat. 😂 I just missed it, I scratched my head for quite some time about that, it looks like it hooks to the tip of the crane, but my depth perception was off, 😂😂😂 Happens to the best of us. Cool boat btw,,,

Sounds like you know waayyyy more about cranes than I do! Glad you enjoyed the video and we’re able to address the question you had cause I couldn’t 😅😂

Very cool boat! If you know, do you mind telling me the freeboard of this icebreaker? I could not find it anywhere.
@MargoLAB2 жыл бұрын
On page 22 of this document it says “freeboard to working deck” is 4 m so that must be it! Surprised I couldn’t find thar on the Wikipedia page! www.unols.org/sites/default/files/healy_2.pdf

Did a 4 year stint in the USCG and our ship never looked that dirty and bad!?!

lol maybe cause it was in port/they were working on it? That’s the only coast guard vessel I’ve been on (twice) and both times it didn’t stand out as being the cleanest ship, but I was always happy just to be going out to sea!
