Still see those Trailblazers, Envoys, Rainiers and Bravadas, many well-maintained, out on the roadways. V8 models are still sought after on second and third-tier lots and via private sale.

Interesting. The GM Plant in Oklahoma City shut down in mid 2004-05 and we have since converted it into a jet engine and aircraft parts maintenance facility, part of Tinker AFB. GM must have used the same building design because the one in this video looks just like the OKC plant. I walk around in the place today and still find things of GM.

GM plant architecture of that era was fairly uniform. I was privileged to have worked in many GM installations during my time in their employ and having been out in the fresh air now for some years I have an affection for those plants where I worked. The memories of the sights, sounds and mixture of exotic aromas have stayed with me all of these years. Once, in the early 1990s as we were relocating a 500 ton Niagara stamping press we found a box of quarter panel moldings, left and right hand, for the 1963 Chevrolet Impala; a quantity of two dozen of each molding. There was a cavity behind the press and up against a wall where the press' hydraulic-pack made a nice hiding space. Speculation ran to perhaps a shift supervisor in the anodizing department put these away against a rainy day for when there might be a time when production ran a bit under schedule. Then they were forgotten. These moldings, in pristine condition I would add, were turned in directly to the plant's manager because no one could countenance a plan to spirit these things out of the facility. Who knows what happened to those moldings? I like to believe that they made their way to some secondary sales channel and sold to Impala aficionados. One can hope.

TralfazConstruction That is an awesome story, have you ever been through the plant in Janesville, Wisconsin in your days?
@TralfazConstruction4 жыл бұрын
@@TheMW2informer I was right there in July of '94 scouting potential homes to purchase but I didn't enter the plant. From what I recollect, the Janesville Assembly Plant was a tractor facility (?) around the early 1900s. I spent time looking around the area and was very pleased with any number of places to live. My dear wife, however, was diagnosed with cancer around that time so transferring to Janesville was an idea that was put on the back burner.
@TheMW2informer4 жыл бұрын
TralfazConstruction yes, it started out as a tractor factory in 1919, in early 1923 it started making Chevrolet cars. I could only imagine some of the old things that were in that plant when it was taken down. I have some original badges, a paper from 1947 about a property expansion, and quite a few bricks from the place, but I just wish I could have worked there, I was born some time after you were here looking at houses, sorry to hear about the circumstances of you being unable to transfer here.

@@TheMW2informer Thank you. I'm sorry I took so long to answer. I was there twenty-seven years ago, early July of '94 and I was just thinking of my trip. By coincidence I inherited an '08 GMC Yukon Denali from my late-uncle. The Yukon was built in Janesville, WI, in September of 2007. It's still going strong and will be fourteen years old in two months.

Glenn Lego I live in Janesville Wisconsin and had family that worked there since the 1950's so I can tell ya exactly. It has been bought my the same company and is going to be demolished starting in a few weeks and expected to take 12-18 months. Locals can pick up bricks of the original 1909 building as keepsakes at some point. Very sad for me and my family as well as the community.. But Janesville has bounced back very nicely with a bunch of new companies

OK Thank You,... I did drive by the plant a few days ago,... I was surprised to see it still standing because of what they were saying on the radio,... I'm going to get down there this weekend to take photos, I had a lot of Friends who worked & retired from there over the years. I helped build one of the additions to the plant back in 1996,..... I live in rural Whitewater myself. It is sad to see that she's going to be demolished,..... When I drove semi back in the 80's & 90's, I use to haul parts to Ford in St. Paul MN & Chrysler's Fenton MO. plants. They both have been torn down already,.... It was so unreal to see those buildings gone. : ( Thank You for the update Brandon,......... Ken

Brandon Schlicht My first car, a 1970 Chevy Belair, was built in Janesville. I remember being at the dealership when the JATCO truck delivered it. The delivery driver almost lost it when backing it off the truck. He hadn't secured the ramp properly and the ramp collapsed as he was driving it off the truck.

@@jeffgray8570 from This report We don’t know if the state sold it for four million or held out for 27 million. But if they held out for 27 million and that meant people has to wait far longer for those jobs than the state wrong. What we do know is you are completely missing the fucking point. If that land sat empty because the state held out for far more than it’s worth than the people should fire their political leaders. If the results were 3000 jobs they should have given the land away.
