Enjoyable review of you trip into Wales, you always leave me with the feeling of wanting to go and ride my bike when I look at them. However, you will have to come back and next time stop in Beddgelert for an ice cream ( it's a must do thing), I appreciate time was limited, but where you stopped for coffee at the " Cross Foxes" you were very near the Hellfire Pass or also called The Pass of The Cross. It's the second highest pass in Wales @ 1788', many years ago the Austin and Triumph Motors use to use it to test their prototype cars, gearbox on the way up, brakes on the way down. I think it was also used for the Milk Race in the 70's and 80's. There are many other gems just off the main routes, you are always welcome in Wales.

'I've been Sat Naved'...love it!!! The amount of times I've been Sat Naved....cruising along, taking in the scenery...then the Sat Nav takes you down the single track look lane from hell where you are expecting the most horrendously massive agricultural vehicle to appear round each corner....great series as usual, perhaps Devon and Cornwall next? I am sure you've been there before but would love to see your take on it.

You should do a motorcycle tour of NZ. I can tell you'd love it by your appreciation of the scenery in Wales and Scotland. The thing that characterises NZ, is the geographical variation in such a small area - it's like a continents worth of geography in a small land mass. One minute you'll be riding next to stunning forest backed coastlines, then snow-capped glaciers and vivid blue lakes. An additional bonus is the lack of traffic. Some amazing flying to be done there too. My brother-in-law is owns his own plane, he's taken me up over the Southern Alps a few times and it's absolutely spectacular.

Great stills at 2.14 and 3.50; were they taken with your iphone? I agree entirely about the attraction of Wales and the ease of access; I have been doing at least one Welsh tour a year for the last twenty years and have not tired of it yet. Last trip was in the last few days of March this year and the weather was perfect for motorcycling: neither cold nor hot, dry every day and no glare. I am beginning to find the traffic getting a bit heavy in the summer though, and my last two tours and the next planned one are all in France. If you have a minute, you might be interested to look up the Legend of Beddgelert. Thanks for all the care you put into taking us out for a virtual ride on a dark rainy night.

Pity you didn't have a bit more time, that area you rode around Machynlleth is part of the Mach Loop, the low-flying training/exercise route for UK/US jets et al … makes quite a sight looking down on a fast jet (or a C130) from above as it streaks through those valleys! The mid-Wales route across the Elan Valley, Rhayader and out to Aberystwyth is a nice leg to ride next time, lots of varied terrain and seaside stop for fish and chips before an afternoon leg up thru Snowdonia to the north coast at Conwy (try the Groes Inn for room/food!).

Revisiting all your tour videos again, they're all great. Regarding being "sat naved", that's happened to me a lot too, I really wish the likes of Tom Tom and Garmin would allow us to exclude unclassified roads from routes. They let us exclude motorways and tolls but not tiny, dangerous (with moss and gravel down the middle) single track roads like that. So annoying when it happens.

Great video and commentary as usual. I keep wondering with the GoPro vlogs I follow why you are unable to power the units from the bike. I run a Sony AS15 on my helmet (just bought a FDR X3000 but haven't fitted it yet) and I power it via a USB plug from the bike. With a 32GB SD card it gives me up to 11 hours of video. This means I just turn it on at the start of a ride and off again when I stop. Saves the ride in 4GB segments. Means you don't miss anything. Does the GoPro not have an external USB input for power? Another query. I keep looking around in your videos for the "mountains" you keep mentioning but for the life of me all I see is hills LOL. Please keep up the good work. I enjoy your stuff immensely. Cheers Paul from NZ. South Island of course.
@TheMissendenFlyer7 жыл бұрын
Yes the GoPro does have a USB port for power, trouble is it's also the USB port for the Mic on all the generations since the GoPro 3 (which used to have a separate Mic jack socket - a much better set up). ....and completely take your point on the hills coming from NZ!!
@maltesedonkey7 жыл бұрын
I was looking at that route from the magazine. And absolutely do not want to replicate your singletrack road with all that slippery moss, which has to be a poor choice for a new rider like me. Could you clarify where the satnav set you off on that track?

My blasted navigator/garmin took me and the GS down all manner of B (loody awful) roads round that way, including up a strongly ascending road, 4 foot wide, and which presented a knifepoint bend on a sharp gradient (had to follow my tracks back instead). The final straw came on landing the bike in a mud swamp (took a pair of us to lift the bike up). The pannier took the fall. Lesson learned: ignore what the navigator says and keep on riding the long way round on decent B-roads!

I go to wales in my kit car every year and have done for the last 10 years at least... We are looking for narrow twisty roads (mostly not good for bikes)... However the locals have started to notice the decline in bikers and car enthusiasts coming to wales because the police are very strict with speeding and you will find that the cameras are not marked and also they will random stick vans on the side of normal country lanes. Hotel owners have said they are losing a tonne of business now and they cannot see it improving... The UK is such a great place to ride/drive but the heavy handedness is destroying a whole culture...

they wouldn't have to stick camera's everywhere etc if people would stick to the speed limits...so no it's not being heavy handed at all

Especially with the British history of motorcycling and racing in general. I understand the need for safety on public roads but with such long, sweeping and well maintained highways, I reckon speed limit shouldn't be something absurd. Sure, in the parts going through villages and towns the speed limit is important. But everywhere else people should be allowed to enjoy themselves and have fun. State shouldn't treat people like toddlers, whatever happened to the concept of personal responsibility...

If you'd like to see that great bit of road from above watch this. On flying days(a lot earlier, generally, than you went through) its really great riding through there and the fast jet boys whistling by overhead. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJ3Xd3uDprqBma8

As far as I'm aware (I'm not Welsh but I've been there) Machynlleth is pronounced as Muh-hunt-leth.

spartacus 8058 : Use Mak Hun cliff for Machynlleth .As an Englishman who has lived in Mid Wales for 28 years that is the best I can do. Aberdyfi is Aberdovey in English. Dolgellau is Prounouced DolGeth lie
