The USS Midway...truly a magical and unique experience. I've visited it TWICE! And I plan on doing it again!

Since we were forward deployed, we had steak and lobster every 2 weeks. The Chiefs did not need to procure them separately. I was a food service officer for 6 months.

I loved the lobster tail and steak dinners before we went in for R & R. As a kid it was my first time I had lobster when I served aboard. Food was really pretty good.

My uncle was aboard on this carrier from 1960-1977.He was I think a first class seaman Loreto Ines from Philippines.He served in the navy for twenty years and finally retired in 1977.

My Dad Served On The Midway in From December 1982 until December 1985. He was assigned to the S-6 Division from 1982 until 1983, he was an Airmen then in 1984 he was promoted to SK3 and was then assigned to the S-9 Division (Supply Department) until 1985 then in December of 1985 he was assigned to MCAS Camp Futenma in Okinawa, Japan from 1985 to 1991 then left in 1991 for a stateside shore duty station in Port Hueneme, California in NCMB 40 Construction Battalion

My father was a storekeeper on the Midway during the 1954 Med cruise. I still have his scrapbook and cruise book.

My dad served on the Midway from 71 to 72 he was aviation technician on the A-7

I was on sister ship FDR in the early 1960s. Not quite as nice as Midway in the Wardroom. Lots of little things not the same, but close. I don't think I would get lost, however. Some things never leave your memory.

Let's not forget ,men of Midway who were incarcerated in it's Brigg , which was also on the 2nd Deck just forward of the 24 hr dining room . The prisoners must walk with one finger hooked in the man's belt loop in front of them...( 12+ men long ) The first man , must yell , " Gangway every 3 steps ....or untill the surly- as-fuc Marine beside him , tells him ; ";Shuddap. !" When you are serving the prisoners you must take caution , because , they have to eat everything in their tray . So a prisoner who has been served a food he doesn't want , has to ask you ( No talking ) ...remove the beans whatever. The men from the Brigg , eat at the last table Port, in the 24 hour mess ..which is sort of away from the rest. The Marine has them stand with their trays by their seats......and before letting them eat , he fucs with them . ( They all must follow whatever he says.) So , " Pick-up-your- tray ..! " " Put -it - down ! " " Pick it up ! " ...."put it down " " Pick up your glass ! " " Put it down ..!" " Oh look .... , Murphy spilled his milk ...!.0K , he has to eat on the floor....!."

That is fairly common depending on rating. If that rate was tight, no one made Chief until a Chief retired or died.
