It has been my experience that very little if what you did goes into a club fitting. Pre configuring the shaft is a huge advantage and most people do not spend the time to do this properly either. As a past club fitter I'd love the training you have had and the access to proper fitting ideals. There is no swing & a miss here, 100% on point. Great video Trottie.

I think you need to do a video on what people should ASK for in a fitting, what to ask the fitter and what should be expected of a fitting. The min requirements and absolute musts! Us players rely on Pros to put us right without coming away thinking I’ve been hyped up with minor change just so we buy!

There is something amazing about watching proper artists or technicians at work as opposed to "assemblers". It's the professionalism of doing something the customer won't even notice, but you will know is done right. They're the people who know there's only two ways to do things. Right, or not at all. Oh to have the funds or the golf game to justify going through that process. Hats off!

@@kourt2469 I would have said that at one point too. But install enough grips and you will say that's not always the case, and when they do get hung up cause of poor perforations, it causes a delay and fidgeting to get it off when not prepared to. So having a 1/2 second fun little smash ot know before you get to install, without having to break out a tool...was a cool tip. I went to a custom fitting where they didn't even measure height, or wrist to floor. The guy from a major manufacturer instead proceeded to mount countless shafts in racks and I could tell he only wanted to sell just those. In the end I was giving an offering that was 40 to 50 percent higher than a cheaper reseller of the same gear would take. Above selling price. For what... I did find shafts I liked even though he tried to disguise them and I was asked to not think about what I was using.... imagine that. My current view on the matter is that they remind me of fairytales of medieval magic potent sellers or something, who conveniently has left the driving range when the peasant finds he still is below average after drinking the cool aid. It is only about money! and for sure I would like to support my local shop, but to be honest: why the hell would I pay more money for the same exact goods? It seems like this is just advertising that all golf shops now use, and most shops dont even have equipment enough advanced for this (even major retailers, locally). I asked a major shop, one of the biggest in my country if they could help swap shaft in 1 club and adjust lie angle. They couldn't. They would have to send it away... this place offers custom fitting. They charge 60 euro for this. Buying 1 shaft, adjusting lie angle, and shipping back and forth would be more money than the club is worth. Ridiculous. Anyway its just a waste of time to make so subtle adjustment when most of us are constantly fixing swing problems, or struggling with double faults. How the hell would gluing 3 gram of weight in a fairway wood save my straight pull or slice? For pros. I get it. They play for money. Every shot matters. But nowadays in golf it seems like they advertize this "custom fitting" everywhere. I used to run a lot. Do every runner need custom fitted shoes? No that is not a thing! Has golf become so elite, so small, that we can't even be bothered to use anything that is not perfectly individualised to our own persona? But I suck at golf! Somehow though, I need professional fitted gear well above market resell price... My next club I am buying used. Looking for an apex uw. If anyone has one. No custom fitting needed. ps. I hope u see the irony in this long, all to long text. Of course getting correct lie angle might help a few shanks. Getting the right length is important. Just find out for yourself. Ask to hit a few clubs. They act like this is rocket science. it's not. It's a way to make consumers pay more than products are worth. If u have money to burn go to one. I do need to get new irons, but the with these prices it is just to much! My guess is the market will switch to direct to consumers brands like Tacoma or Miura. No custom fitting there.

It’s tough to do different swing weights especially with hot melt but there are other alternatives. For players that need it most places don’t mind tipping a shaft whether it be through a custom order or the shop doing it themselves. Awesome video Trottie! Getting a custom build is the way to go. However, the customization and detail you get into is not something us normal consumers are privy to when doing a custom order through Taylormade. The crown recently popped off of my Sim 2 Max 3 wood and that’s a story in itself in trying to deal with Taylormade’s warranty. I’ve been trying to order a QI10 3 wood to replace it with a Fuji TR Blue 8X tipped 1.5 inches, but was told by at least 5 customer service reps that they can’t tip it any more than an inch and to go through a third party builder. It’s quite frustrating to go through so many hurdles, but have been a longtime Taylormade user and been enjoying your content for many years

What custom fitting can’t solve for us average folks is the way-too-upright lie angles of the standard TaylorMade fairway woods. Third parties won’t even try bending them because it invalidates the warranty. There’s got to be some way to solve this issue, because everything else about the QI10 fairway woods is awesome.

Tiger does it with irons. Which makes me think there's something there. As for woods the engineers tell me there's nothing there BUT when you see the process live it's hard to think it doesn't make an impact on the shaft. Not sure if you watched the previous vid on iron shafts (link below) but the KBS engineer talks about frequency and weight matching. I think it's interesting and I think it's player dependent. @trottiegolf
@trottiegolf 2 ай бұрын
oh man. 1) have you weighed the clubs now? 2) you're not gonna love this.... Assuming you 're a solid builder it's a disassemble and reassemble process with lead powder mixed into the glue. You then weigh each club as you reassemble. BUT If you added the same amount of tape and all midsize then the good news is you moved everything SO remeasure all before you start the whole process or taking heads off. Stats and Data will tell you if you have a real problem here or if you can get over it. Tough one though and I get it.

Trottie got a question since I don't have or use Instagram - Do you have a video regarding Driver Swing Weight? I got fitted this past weekend into Qi 10 LS 9 degree with a 60x Graphite Design HD (white with blue graphics) and swing weight was D8 @ 45.5" EOG Off the shelf was D5.5 ( at local golf retailer) Is that too heavy of a swing weight for driver (for general rule of thumb)? Any tour players / brand ambassadors flirting around that swing weight in that general area? Avg Swing speed 120 with max of 128 (with D8 swing weight during fitting)

Easily one of my most underrated videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaiVeJSOiKqLb7Msi=wyvwG-R8fbxx8Wjx It's old now and to be honest I think I need to refresh.... In fact I will this winter! Right your driver question: D8 is heavy Clarke lived at D8 for most of his career Rory flirted with D7 at times Older generation guys tend to be heavier PGA Tour average I'd say D4 European Tour average I'd say D3 Asian Tour / Japan / Korea I'd say D2 Australia / SA D4 Your Speed D4 / D5 would be my personal start point but look if you play D8 and you're smashing it then you'll get more speed because it's more mass BUT if you can't hit the middle with the rest of your sticks then that's gotta be addressed.
@fictionalgaming912
@fictionalgaming912 2 ай бұрын
@@trottiegolf That is amazing information, Thanks Trottie! I am going to watch the video now. I should have mentioned my height is 6'5". I play +1" on my iron lengths with 120 X STIFF LA Shafts with 7i avg speed around 100mph varying from 98 - 103 mph. Typical strike pattern is middle face with slight toe bias on irons. The Driver fitting was at Club champion with their proprietary adapter system with a standard tour velvet grip (no extra wraps) and I play Midsize MCC +4. With the my grip weight being about 16-17 grams heavier, that balance point would move up and I may end up at the D4-D6 SW range. Your comment about the older generation guys tend to be heavier, I would say I might fall in that category. I think that is why I gave up the Paradym (first gen), it felt too light in the head and I couldn't feel where the face was at. Results of the fitting was all my shots were left, but aiming was same, swing was the same (Qi10 came in when I was 60 minutes in and over 100 swings in). Small grip just meant I overcooked the face and swing path left. The Qi10 made everything (head + path) come back to neutral and immediately put 3 shots center fairway with ~15 yds dispersion from left to right. I did do a "overswing" where I wanted to see how the ball would be if I tried to swing super hard like I was trying for 130mph. Qi10 was right rough BUT very playable (if its in play you have a shot), everything else was high spin right and out of play or behind trees. If you don't have time reply to these questions that is fine ( use them for the refresh video if you want for this winter) Since I am fit with a standard grip + 45.5" EOG driver with SW of D8 but my gamer grip is ~20 grams heavier, should the club be swing weighted back up to original fitted weight OR should it be left alone since it would be the same mass at point of impact? With hot melt being option - to swing weight a driver would you put the hot melt in the same area of the head as the tracked weight (LS models), screwed in weight ports (heel weight of base Qi 10 model) or do it based on flight characteristic desires? If you PURE a wood shaft does that impact the delivery of a club head that is Heavy D5-D8 or no impact at all? I look forward to the refresh video Trottie and next tour truck tuesday! I also love my 2024 Burner Mini Drive 13.5*, the darn thing is a ROCKET.

@@fictionalgaming912 1) lotta info thx 2) oversized grips and SW. Be sure to match your set and feel unless you're into a 60* that you want heavier or have a specific club you want heavier 3) Then hot melt I go with shot pattern and miss tendency. Todd hits pull cuts (7 wood in this video) so I place the hot melt in the heel to help with the occasional right miss.

@@trottiegolf Update Trottie: club came in - swing weight was correct maybe even D9 (without Arccos sensor in). I had a HARD time launching it even with aggressive swing (~125 mph). Felt like the club was behind and couldn't get it through. Maybe 20% good hit rate on it, but carry was down from 300 to 240. I knew something was wrong with the club because I could launch my cobra LTDX drive just fine. There was a difference with the two clubs though, one had the Jumbo Max XL Tour series (123g) on it. Qi10 had the MCC+4 MID (~68g) on it. Since east coast can get cold during the winter time I busted out my i230s with JMX SMALL (tour series 99g) and first range session I saw better 360 dispersion. The JMX grips are super insulated for winter time like a 10 degree difference when holding them on steel shafts. Makes winter golf more "bearable". Long story short - I purchased 2 - JMX Tour series SMALL and put one on the Qi10 drive and now it is just clock work. First outing, my driving total distance was 325-345. I was on average 20-30 yds short of PAR4 front edge greens playing one up from tips since tips are gone for winter rates period. Your fitting videos, and general club knowledge helped me understand that the club was unbalanced. Also put my Spider Tour T7 CB back in the bag. Thank you for having a channel Trottie and sharing all your knowledge with us!

GREAT QUESTION! Ideally a club fitting. Different shafts perform differently & individuals have different feels. Start point. Take your absolute favorite club or all time and go use that as your north star. Weigh it, measure all the parameters and work off that. If you're a solid player a key point is centeredness of strike, ensure you have that and go from there

@@trottiegolf I apologize in advance for the long follow up comment before you begin reading, LOL but Where should someone go to get a fitting like that? I would say i struggle most with my longer clubs, 3h 3w and driver. I typically go to Golf Galaxy (I live in central NY in the US) and based on the few fittings I've done there they aren't equipped to test swing weight. They didn't even have more than one different kind of x-stiff shaft for me to try when I was getting fit for my driver and three wood. I also recently learned that typically the shaft for your 3 wood should be heavier than the shaft for your driver and the driver shaft I bought for myself is a 75g x-stiff pro force shaft (which I like) and they fit me with a 70 g hazardous smoke x-stiff shaft. I just feel like they don't have the best ability to fit players and are just trying to sell you whatever they can. I also had the face of my driver and 3 wood crack this summer so i am looking to get fit for a new 3 wood because Titleist wouldn't replace the tsi3 that i have only had for 2 years. Luckily TaylorMade replaced my stealth with a Qi10 with very few questions asked. I just want to go somewhere to get fit where I know that I'm not going to get sold something just for the sake of them selling something, I want to have something that works for me as i am approaching a 5 HCP according to 18 birdies(the GPS app i use to track my rounds and work my way around the golf course).

@@mikehoalcraft8381 yea the whole fitting scene as I dig deeper seems a mine field. Sorry that I don't have anywhere in particular that I recommend. I have a couple of trusted friends I know in the UK but US is a different deal outside of tour. I'm working on it though so stay tuned to the newsletter found on www.trottiegolf.com

I’ve had fittings and some feel like a process of elimination, just keep trying different shafts and heads that produce the best results. No measurements, no tipping, no grip check no lie/loft check etc… also had fittings where I’ve had a misunderstanding machine on a shaft and that told me what shaft I need after a few swings. Nothing like your videos.

Yea I'm not sure YET on where I sit on Ai fittings and online fittings and machine recommendations. Things are improving without doubt but there's still a human element required. The problem appears to be that it's tough to find a great FITR. At least that's what I feel I'm reading from the comments on the channel. I'll keep dropping nuggets and I'm sure that'll lead to a solution at some stage. I'm working on it Matt. Appreciate your comments 👍

Would probably be the pinnacle for me. I’m a 45 year old man but would be great to see what you could do to my scores with proper fitting. I’ve only ever had one and from what I’ve seen it wasn’t even close to what I should have had. Never once did we talk about lie angle or lofts , shafts nothing. Hopefully one day you may be in 🇬🇧 and can give me the real experience of a proper fitting
