Loved seeing these! However, rental bidding is illegal in Victoria, so while it’s tempting to do it, people really need to stop engaging in it. If people don’t do it, it will help to stop driving the prices up.

I had NO IDEA that it's illegal, because that's what all of our friends told us when we were about to hunt for a new place. Even on the rental application website, they would have a section on how much we're willing to pay for the rent, even though it's quite clear that they already stated the rent price, so we thought it's normal to bid higher... But I do wish they stop with this bidding thing, it's concerning..

This comment made me curious, I looked it up, earlier this year 3 other states 'banned rental bidding' and WA was the final state or territory on the mainland to legalise banning it in May now making it illegal throughout Australia. However, only illegal for Real Estate agents to initiate or pressure rental bidding.

It's how pragmatic you want to be. Obviously rental bidding is not ideal, but you can't control all market participants - especially with emotional decisions like where you choose to live. If you have the means and you really want to secure a place, it will happen

I live in a regional city and have my own home. I sometimes wish I had the big city life but after watching this I’m not sure it’s worth the stress and cost involved to just find a property. I also have a car. I guess that’s there is a downside to living anywhere. I like the place you ended up getting.

I remarked to a fellow tenant in my complex that the guy in the flat next to me was incredibly quiet. Turns out that the last time the ambulance came to pick him up, he died in hospital. That was over 6 months ago and I suspect that his son is having no luck selling the place. Never underestimate the value of a quiet complex / street / suburb.

I did the maths and it shows how expensive is to live in Melbourne now a days: $ 2,828/Month for a two bethroom unit, 30 min away from the city...no close to the train station 😮
