Looks purpose built. Good one.👌I've found setting up a 4WD setup is an on-going tweaks & updates. I've now had my 80 Series for 5 years and to date, I've made improvements and/or changes to make it more suitable for my needs at least once a year. And I have no doubt, I will do more tweaks and changes in the future. 😁

It's most definitely purpose built but has around 10 years of refining in the setup. Definitely does what it's meant to do and that is live out of it for 6 months at a time, if not longer. 🤠👌

Great setup, how do you get around the 100kg roof load limit on the Prados with roof top tent, your body weight, solar panel etc, which will void any insurance you may have ? I want a rtt on my 90 but may have to go to full size Landcruiser.
@OzTrax4X4 Жыл бұрын
While Pete hasn't replied yet, I'll throw in my 2c worth. That rack, RTT, awning, and solar setup is probably around 125-150kg total. While there is a grey area, I've had this discussion many times and you'd want to look at static vs dynamic load ratings and off-road ratings as well. Basically, if you have an accident caused by an overloaded roof rack, then you're not covered. If you hit a kangaroo, or someone hits you, you'd be covered, as the rack didn't cause an issue. Ideally, you want to keep your weight down as low as possible at the end of the day. A low profile clamshell aluminium rooftop tent and an alloy rack will be the choice if you're concerned about the legality of it all. In regards to changing vehicles, that is totally your choice, bud I'd expect both a Landcruiser and a Prado to have near identical load ratings. Hope this helps somewhat 🤠👌

@OzTrax4X4 it'll be my first car,all it needs is an engine, it has the automatic transmission, original kzj but I wonder if I change the engine and not get a 1kz,opinion?
@OzTrax4X4 Жыл бұрын
@@ちゃんシーザー that all depends how far you want to go with it. If it was easily adaptable and something you will keep forever and never sell, maybe a Cummins 4BT swap might be an idea, as long as you can marry it up to the transmission. Otherwise, stick with the 1KZ. 👌

@OzTrax4X4 awesome ideas,I'm getting really excited I've never been off road,but it's my dream, I turn 20 in December to wanna get the build started before then,at first I thought 90 series were too small and seem underpowered and out gunned by even the 120 series but this has opened my eyes, I'm surprised and want to see more,tragic of what happened to you and your 90,but you've earned a follower here.

@@ちゃんシーザー Best thing to do is get out there and explore. For me, the 90 was always a little too small, but it got me out to very remote places. The 80 is definitely bigger and suits my needs more, especially with carrying camera gear etc. Just a pain that I had to start again with a new build. Completely missed your question about seeing more of Pete's rig. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a KZbin channel or anything like that, but I do have a few shorts up and there are the trip videos from a few years back that you'll see it in. I've added a link in the description box for you. You'll need to contact the company to order them and they are an exact fit for a 90 series Prado, you just need to specify what you would like to order. Whether that is the rear doors, rear pop out windows and rear door window, or a full set including the front doors and windscreen is totally up to you and what you are planning with your build.

Whats the load rating on a kjz90 prado roof? 500kg?
@OzTrax4X45 ай бұрын
I believe a KZJ90 is a short wheel base variant which we never got here, so I can't even attempt to figure out what that would be, but I'm pretty sure its not 500kg, nor is any vehicle for that matter. 🤔

@OzTrax4X411 ай бұрын
While there are on-road and off-road ratings, the general consensus is nothing more than a 100kg load rating on your roof. The majority of individual roof racks are rated to 40kg per cross bar. So, if we go on that calculation, a flat rack with 8 mounts (4 either side), would effectively be 160kg distributed evenly across the length of the roof less the weight of the steel rack, which I would put down as 50kgs, so 110kg load on the roof. I know this roof rack can take approximately 250kg of load (no, I wouldn't put that up there). As this isn't my vehicle, that would more than likely be how it was calculated.

No it's not my friend 🤔 I have a 2000 Toyota Land cruiser j95 and I have a 1kz-te engine and it says on the top of the engine 1kz-te... And as well as the 1kz-te engine it is non intercooler.. I will send you a picture if you tell me where...
@OzTrax4X49 ай бұрын
@todorroshev2769 maybe in your countries market you got a D4D in your 90 series, but here in Australia, it was the 1KZ-TE up until 2002. The 120 series got it later on in life here, but I can assure you that is a 1KZ-TE sitting in that engine bay of this vehicle that the owner has had for well over 10 years. 🤔 The Japanese market introduced the D4D for JDM model from 2000 onwards, so I'd say that is where the confusion lies. Ours were intercooled from the factory and draw air from up under the front edge of the bonnet.

If you tell me where I can send a picture you will understand me... This engine got that car in the UK and Europe is a D4D engine I own the same truck and I'm telling you my truck has a 1kz-te engine and it is completely different from this...
@OzTrax4X49 ай бұрын
@@todorroshev2769 by all means you can send it to me via my Facebook page, but different world markets had different engine combinations. Europe for example would have a cold climate, so wouldn't need an intercooler, where here in Australia we have a hot climate and its required. This isn't my vehicle but I know the vehicle as I've worked on it several times myself and I know the owner very well. 🤠
