Yes it is. For a small town Winchester is a great place to go! Thank you for watching.

Never went to Winchester, because we had our own high-banked half-mile monster called, Owosso Speedway. (Ovid, MI.) It was built in 1939 as a quarter-mile, and operated as such until it closed to house German P.O.W.'s Racing resumed in 1946 with a new half-mile, built around the existing quarter-mile. By 1960, the half-mile was so fast, that it couldn't be insured. That lasted three years, and in the following years the big track reopened and hosted everything from late models, midgets, sprints, supermods, and school buses. A guy from Texas broke the world record in a rear-engine supermod. Those were some great years!

Back several years ago before Nascar changed the testing rule that allowed teams to test at NON-nascar sanctioned tracks and not having it count against their officially allowed test sessions. Top Nascar teams would test here for Bristol because Bristol's old layout and banking was nearly identical to Winchester's. I've seen Winston Cup Series, Busch Series and even truck series teams rolling through town headed out to the track. You could always tell when it was a Nascar team out there because it would be in the middle of the day in the middle of the week and you'd only hear one car making laps. I'm a local and my absolute favorites to watch out there are the Winged Sprints, Outlaw Late Models and the Super Modifieds with their active aero and screaming big block hanging off the left hand side of the chassis. My favorite spot is right up against the fence near the end of the straight, feeling the blast of wind and the smell of exhaust as the cars go by flat out, it doesn't get much better than that.

It’s more like a landmark than a racetrack. Until someone else owns it and runs it it’s almost a waste. One big race a year woohoo.
