Did I read that right? It has just 480 watts of solar (guessing limited space for panels)? It has quite a large battery bank, but unless I misunderstand the pre-installed solar at less than 500 watts, there's just no way. Maybe they assume that with such a large bank, you don't need a constant large amount to keep it topped off, at least as far as boondocking scenarios go. Not sure they're asking price is in line with the actual trailer to be quite honest, what could you get from Airstream for that price? Or half that price?

@Bowlus7 ай бұрын
@exploringrvdude7817 And tent camping is nearly free....there is an RV for every customer requirement and budget. We opt for marine and aircraft materials. Our iconic shell is crafted from 2024 aluminum-which is, for example, the same material used to construct a Boeing jet. Our aluminum is 5-6 times the price of the softer, dentable aluminum used in an Airstream. Our interior is real wood, compared to Airstream’s paper or plastic veneer. Our rivets are aircraft-grade. The rivets used in an Airstream are the same you might find in belts or pot handles. Many of our parts (electrical system, electrical monitoring system, power converter, inverter, lighting fixtures, showerhead, sinks, etc.) are marine-grade, meaning they are long lasting and extremely durable. RV-quality parts are not built to endure. In other words, we don’t cut corners at Bowlus.

I have looked at (haven't owned one) Airstreams, such as the Bambi 20 ft and as I compare to this . . . . . I like Bowlus better for the following reasons. 1) It is better construction from start to finish from the TIG wielded frame, heavier gauge aluminum panels. 2) Their construction techniques make this unit much lighter compared to comparable size Airstream. 3) There is better insulation with a completely enclosed shell. 4). Solar power system capacity is far greater than stock Airstream (if the model has it) and with insulation efficiency can manage being completely off grid. 5) I love the lighter interior as it makes it feel more spacious than if the interior was darker. 6) Far more vehicles can tow this trailer with max weight of 4000# so I won't need to buy a new truck that can pull the 6000# plus weight of a similar Airstream. 7) The design of the interior particularly the bathroom area is ingenious making it more usable when needed. Just all of it, I will say getting use to the bedroom just because it doesn't have square corners will be different. Yes it does cost more, can I justify it? Probably a used one with some depreciation off the lot and if I sell my home and live in it full time (which with the construction it has and history of no warranty items in last 5 years-significant) which I am looking to do once retired.

@LessJunkMoreJourney7 ай бұрын
Good point
@Bowlus7 ай бұрын
@scarlethenderson6510 - The Bowlus is safer and better designed with a single axle. Weight determines needs. Recreational trailer tires hold a load capacity specific to each tire. In the case of a Bowlus, with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 4,000 pounds for the Volterra, we use Goodyear Endurance 205R15 at 65psi with a load; this equates to 2150 lbs. per tire. This dictates just one axle and two tires. A 25’ Airstream, on the other hand, has a GVWR of 7600 lbs. For such a heavy travel trailer, two axles and four tires are required. Let’s ignore for a moment the arguments that two axles greatly compromise interior layouts and reduce interior space or that they cost twice as much to replace or maintain. Instead, let’s look at how aerodynamics, specifically weight balancing, and the design of an RV impact tracking and safety. Our owners tell us that when they’ve experienced challenging driving conditions (particularly down mountain passes) with other, heavier travel trailers they’ve owned or rented, a double axle did not deliver better tracking or provide a feeling of more safety.

Cassette toilets are horible if you are going to do anything but pee in them. Give me a real toilet and a black tank.@@LessJunkMoreJourney

@@LessJunkMoreJourney - That's right. Our customers prefer the convenience of being able to dump their cassette toilet at any restroom.

Fun fact; Bowlus has never had a single warranty claim ever... ever, in the history of the company. Never had a cracked frame, never a failed body panel... you can keep buying RV's all you want over the next 40 yrs and spend 2 million... or you can buy this once and forget about it. Also, the man who invented Airstream worked for Bowlus and stole his idea and started Airstream, which quickly went bankrupt. Also, Bowlus made the plane 'The Spirit of St Louis'.

I’m not sure why it’s being called the first all electric RV. I had an all electric Tiffin Allegro RED which was all electric. No propane. The only fuel was diesel for the engine and the Aqua Hot.
@LessJunkMoreJourney7 ай бұрын
Maybe they’re considering it the first all electric towable.

We're all built differently, but the Bolus is the ugliest thing I have seen recently, no storage, and just plain impractical. One thing I do like... it should tow easy. Aerodynamic! Maybe a Tesla truck could pull it 😀
