Nice run! I dont think you rode irresponsibly. Check 2:48 how 6 skiiers completely block the narrowest part of the course. That is irresponsible, they should be standing behind each other!

It is irresponsible. As the good, fast skier, it's always your duty to watch out for those who can't because they are inexperienced, exhausted or just too busy to remain on their feet. Of course it's ridiculous to stop at the narrowest part. But this is not a free pass to nearly run over people. After all, it's not a race.

@@rrblah thank god I'm not the only skier who sees that skiers run as being careless..to say the least!!! See my other responses where I'm more opinionated about this vid. I struggle with the comments admiring this lunatic...mind numbingly shocking behaviour to my thinking!!!

From top to bottom YOU condone that entire run? How dare anybody have the audacity to stop for WHATEVER reason, without considering that a unfit, out of control, at times! skier would approach their area, yes that's right, they're DOWNSLOPE!!! , at a reckless speed, solely relying on other skiers to NOT be in HIS way..shame on them eh. Oh n that skier with the child on skies in middle of the slope unaware of the potential danger HURTLING towards them...? Well whipping is far too good for that inconsiderate behaviour I must say!! "Nice run" you said? I suggest you watch that vid once more, then consider all, yes ALL, of the near possible crashes he managed to avoid, why don't you try counting them🤔 I'm done, respond if you want, but I'm disgusted and concerned that people sharing the slopes with that mindset are coming from behind the rest of us. Look in the mirror😐

@sts1243
@sts1243 Жыл бұрын

There is a reason downhill courses are closed for competitors. It is for the safety of the skiing public and the downhill competitors. While this skier might be capable of navigating the World Cup downhill course, it is not a downhill event. It is an open recreational ski day, with skiers of different skill levels. And to ski as though it is a downhill event, and expect skiers below you to be aware is pretty irresponsible. I race motorcycles and there is a reason I only race with other trained racers within the controlled confines of a race track and not on the street with other vehicles. Same thing.
@applemanuk

Agree. Skiing at that speed on a regular ski day is reckless and stupid. Total lack of respect for other skiers and boarders.
@quuxjn2452

where was he skiing irresponsible? He seemed to be in control all the time and he always gave enough space when passing. It didn't even look like he was really trying to be super fast but it just looked like a regular run from an advanced skier. Plus it wasn't even a busy day, there could have been much, much more people. I'll go to Grindewald/Wengen on Saturday and I'll probably ski about like this dude did all day long. (let's see if I can beat his time) just because you can't safely ski this fast enough doesn't mean that nobody can. Edit: ok, the pass at 2:45 was stupid and out of control but apart from that I don't see a problem

Apart from the obvious amateurism and desire to stand out on the part of the skier, - who only managed to avoid a tragedy with the help of luck -, it is worth highlighting the CRIMINAL LACK OF RESPONSABILITY OF THE SLOPE ADMINISTRATOR , who stimulates this behavior by keeping the start gate open . ! For this purpose, the starting point is equipped with an installed photo-point !! Why do they do this? Money and advertising are probably the answers.

The upper section is a very easy glide slope. Until you get to the Hundschopf nothing dramatic happens and the Hundschopf itself is blocked (you can't jump it9. Don't blame this idiot on the ski resort. A lot of people have fun posing at the start without going berserk afterwards.

There is no good way to stop people from speeding. To discourage people from "doing it like the pros", a better measure would be to interrupt the course (for example, at the water stop), which would force people to take a short break. That also increases safety for the final turns.

A few friends have given up the sport they followed for years following high-speed collisions from above (both by skiers and boarders), injury and occasionally medical repatriation. Is the advent of performance apps contributing to a failure of care, or air least basic courtesy, on the slopes? Noticed many groups of 'fliers' last year in the Dolomites checking and comparing their 'performance'. Yes, there were people in awkward positions on this run but it was open to all - those who are learning just as much as the pros. This guy was either unwilling or unable to check his speed to accommodate situations below him. Poor, very poor.

wtf. the run is open to the public and you are close to /borderline /over your skill limits which means in the wrong situation you are going to fly off the trail and become a statistic or hit someone and terminate them or both of you as your speeds are running 80 to105 kph. join the local adults race club. this is why i was posted on duty as speed control /ski patrol to take aside this kind of skiing on public ski runs with kids and recreational skiers enjoying a sunny day in the mountains
@obi-john218
@obi-john218 Жыл бұрын
The skier showed very poor technique and worse judgment. He obviously has no racing experience since he did not even know where to place his poles in the start gate. This was not a closed course and was full of family skiers which dictates that any responsible skier should have slowed down as he passed them or went over blind rolls in order to allow for the unexpected. It was pure luck that he did not send someone to the hospital due to his selfish poor judgment. This is an example at its worst of skiers with poor technique skiing far faster than their skill level and showing no respect for anyone else on the mountain. We can only hope that skiers like this will hit a tree or chairlift tower before they hit a person.

Although I have never seen it enforced, those skiing dangerously or on slopes which are beyond their capability where they become dangerous to others can be cautioned and or removed. The slopes are identified with colours to provide guidance to all skiers. This does not always translate. When you buy a ticket to ride, there are no restrictions imposed. These bottlenecks can be extremely hazardous.

Assuming your boots aren't more than one size wrong you can probably improve by buckling them differently, tighter or looser in different places. Tighter can actually be more comfortable depending what the problem is. But really you should ask your instructor if you have one, or whoever is teaching you, or whoever sold or rented you your boots. If you show them your boots and what you're doing and where you have pain they'll likely be able to sort you out.

Fast run on an icy piste. You can see by the end he’s struggling big time. Lots of grumpy keyboard warriors in the comments here. He’s nowhere near “race speed”. He takes 5 min 30 seconds to cover 4.3km so that’s an average of 47km/h. The race takes around 2 min 30 so 3 mins faster and speeds peak at 160km/h. He slows down significantly and moves right across at the accident site just below where the jump is in the race and those skiers should not be blocking the piste just before the tunnel. Yes, he comes a bit close to a kid in the lower section and goes between groups of skiers stopped on the tops of rises but he never comes that close to them. I’ve seen much much worse when I was younger skiing in the Alps.

You are a bit above amateur skier my friend, or your legs are strong as mountain. My level is above intermediate but not close to professional skier, but aldo having strong legs, they are first that giving up on me, basically it would be physically hard for me to this slope without brake or two… Well done. I have never opportunity to go on competition slopes, however it’s hard not to notice a huge difference in slope preparation meaning that professional skier on this specific slope is 70% on pure ice, aldo in this video basically there was no ice at all, anyone that can explain this to me or it’s just pure accident??? Thanks

Good observation. Competition-like prep is just way too dangerous as it would be like an ice skating rink all the way down. There are videos of amateurs *trying* to go down the Streif a day or two after the race, and it's not pretty. Most skiers are simply not able to deal with such an amount of ice. And their skis might not even be properly sharpened.They would have to keep most of it locked down.

That was a decent, but not perfect run. Hard, crispy slope, that's good, perfect conditions to go high speed carving, 100 kph plus. Or slower speed, with more curves. You were drifting a lot. Probably tactical, to safe stamina, clean carving would be a lot more exhausting. I see, on some places I'd go hocke, straight,much faster. But then using hard, deep carving turns, to slow down, before less visible areas coming in. You were a bit cautious, when best conditions, but several times too fast for the visibility on a rather crowded track. OH, and a few overtaking and pass by's of stsnding skiers were way too fast, really dangerous, if those do a weird movement. For a, high-speed, run wait for a less crowded, slope. Probably close to evening, or very early in the morning.

I heartily disapprove of show offs and performance checkers. This particular idiot may have more speed than skill but he is not traveling as fast as it looks from the head-cam. At 2:48 he makes an ass of himself but he is not traveling fast. As soon as he started grunting and complaining he should have stopped because that was his warning to himself that he had exceeded his own limit. Overall, the fault lies with the resort for leaving the gates in place but at the same time leaving the piste open for small children and novices.
