That's disappointing you found it a tourist trap, but at least you tried it. I liked Pompeii. It is sad that it is not being preserved as well as it could be though!

Yeah I think had we went in the main entrance, we would've had a better first impression and would've then had a better experience. It still could be so much better preserved though!

Your choice of background music is cracking me up! It's like your trapped in an amusement park 'fun house' but not having any fun. Which is sad because Pompeii is extremely fascinating. I actually enjoyed visiting Pompeii but I was with a class so we got the historical, social, political, architectural context. I think if someone were to pay to get in, it would have been worth a guided tour so you could better grasp the big picture of the entire city. I feel like you spent a lot of your time being unnecessarily frustrated.

That's the exact feeling I was going for with the music! :) I think we had a bad first impression by entering in the group entrance and not the main visitor entrance. The group entrance was closest to our hotel, so we figured we would start there. Then the map had a horrible design and with only 2 hours it was a bit frustrating. The guided tours were 100 Euros, so we didn't want to do that. We could've paid an extra 10 euros each for an audio guide from a different vendor - not purchased from the main ticket office. But I think our frustrations would've been minimized had we gone in the main entrance because the visitor center was pretty cool! They didn't have any signs though when we purchased our tickets. We found out later! Still disappointed because I had really high hopes for the Pompeii ruins!
