Dave G was the drummer who rescued me from a coma-inducing boredom of 70's rock drumming.

I would have to disagree with the negative comment(s) concerning Carlos Santana. He's not the least bit out of his league. He brought one style into another and if you listen to the changes, he was right there. As a bass player in an extremely hot Gospel R&B Band, I would love to play with Carlos Santana. It's all about merging the styles, folks. We don't have too many real musicians left out there, folks. Enjoy what we still have.
@bluesandmore786 Жыл бұрын
It's a different style that really doesn't fit the band. That doesn't mean it isn't good. But if TOP were looking for a guitar player, and a guy showed up who wasn't Carlos Santana but played that style, he wouldn't be hired.

Saw these guys in 1972 and have never recovered. Their live performances are truly overwhelming. I have seen them perform in small nightclubs, theaters, and larger arenas. No matter what venue, they come to perform...........AMAZING!!

Horn bands Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire certainly wrote more hits, but TOP's horns can't be topped. The level of talent in this band is through the roof, and even their live shows are tight. One show in Lincolnshire, Illinois was a small room with a low stage. I stood about 15 feet in front of the horns and am now bald. Their dynamics are phenomenal.

I've listened to lots of versions, but keep coming back to this one. I smile EVERY time CT starts hittin, wobblin, and holdin his keys. So awesome when they get lost in their own energy. 4:53 & 5:08, as good as it gets. David, Rocco, and Chester in a perfect groove! What a magical mix of talent on one stage. A rare tour stop in little Greenville, SC at The Handlebar on June 5! Can't wait! Pray that many will come. We live in a dying land and so many are in need of the soul vaccination.

Knock Yourself Out - Tower of Power Live and Living Color 1976 Sacramento, CA. Lenny Pickett (LP) was amazing and a half! This one is nice and slick but that one was real & raw and also included CT with an outstanding solo!

I wonder what it must feel like for someone who is musically inclined who has never heard this band before. If that person had any musical soul in them they would be blown away from what they hear. I remember in the late 70's I would be in Washington DC and the cats there would be blown away from what they were hearing. What the Tower does is very hard to duplicate and they work hard to keep the standards up. This band has inspired many good musicians to keep playing!
@radioman31213 жыл бұрын
Why these guys aren't in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame is a crying shame. But this rendition of Knock may be the hottest yet. The battle of the monster B3 organists in Chester and Roger, the killer vocals of Larry Braggs (the baddest cat in the land, bar none) and the best horn section ever assembled -- AND Carlos Santana on guitar! Mercy this is just too hot!

I'm not getting the negativity on Carlos. He's never been a shredder, always very melodic. He shows his stuff here in a big way! But to have two of the best B3 players on the planet on the same stage - good LAWD that's too hot! Kinda wished they still closed their show with this, but even if you don't know the band do yourself a favor and see these guys in concert! You'll feel their professionalism, talent and soul though your entire body!
