When I was depressed and with nobody to talk to, listening Towens it was like talking with sombedy who has been in the same home. In some way he saved me.

The universe flows ever onward despite egos, money and Valor! Its humbling when you understand. Townes knew this truth and said fuck it lets jam

After over forty years of listening to his music and lyrics... I still feel a genuine love for the man. He wouldn't have wanted to take responsibility but he is one of the reasons I'm still around. My spiritual father. RIP😂

Been addicted to this song and Townes over the past few days. Just hits the spot perfectly right now Townes articulated depression unlike any other artist I've heard. RIP

One of the first great songs about depression was Marty Robbins' "At the end of a long, lonely day."

If it helps anyone, he was a family friend. He was a family man and quite normal...except for his burdens. Very good man. 💔🥃

I'm confused how that statement would help anyone... But also it's not very accurate. Townes was a lifelong alcoholic that often told his friends he wanted to kill himself. He was chronically unhappy, heard voices, and used Lithium on and off for years. His son JT said he was often cruel with his words, and even used heroin in front of him. He was friendly, spontaneous, fun, and liked telling jokes if that's what you mean by normal. But to suggest Townes was a regular family man who ate porridge in the morning while reading a newspaper belies everything his close friends and family have said. He had a good heart, but adding "except for his burdens" as a small caveat is crazy. Townes life was dominated by those burdens. He wrote some of the saddest songs of all time and died at 52 for a reason...

@@marquettegloves9907I knew him personally, did you?I have pictures to prove it. Also, did your father receive a phone call at 430 am on New Year's Day from his family, when he passed Away???I DON'T THINK SO!!

@@marquettegloves9907Accurate summation of Townes!! He was also sent for shock treatment by his mother as well..I met Townes here in Australia found him quite intense and to be honest paranoid of people..This gig is called "TVZ at Madigans Brunswick" for your pleasure..I told Townes who is the greatest songwriter and he nodded in agreement PHIL OCHS..both similar in many ways, may they both rest in peace❤❤

@@tommihail2178 yep, Townes was a great man but he was clearly troubled. Why anyone would suggest different I have no idea. Re Phil Ochs, that's very interesting Townes agreed with you. For as great as Phil was, Townes is above him for me. Though When I'm Gone is still a personal favorite of mine. You're right they're both similar. Immense talent but overwhelmed by demons. I've watched that Townes concert before, that's cool you were there. I've got a couple For the Sake of the Song books signed by Townes, and they're pretty valuable apparently. But meeting him trumps that. You're a lucky man to have met him.

It’s super cool that this incredible song would likely never have existed without Lightnin’ Hopkins (Townes and Lightnin’ were friends and Hopkins’ style and licks influenced Townes). Here, however, we have *existential* blues.

Townes has more talent in his pinkie than Colter has in his whole ass body. Colter sucks at singing AND songwriting. So bland. Should go back to being with his rich daddy and quit playing canadian rancher.
