"i don't wanna say he's emotionally intelligent" NO NO, that's _exactly_ what Hinata is, he may not necessarily be consciously aware of it himself, but he very often gets an excellent and relatively accurate read on what other people could possibly be feeling or thinking in most contexts, it's a large part of what makes him get along with almost everyone he interacts with edit: also i love how Yachi's mom asks "how will you catch the attention of people walking by" and then it shows Hinata traveling on his bike and stopping in his tracks to look at the poster she made, just like how he stopped to watch the Little Giant when he was younger, so poetically perfect

Big agreement on all points here! When it comes to different types of intelligence especially I have trouble finding a better example than Hinatas character for this! (Kageyama is also a really good example of strategic intelligence and/or "athletic" intelligence as some have called it, all whilst completely lacking in academic and emotional intelligence.)
@ramansgdeep
@ramansgdeep 7 ай бұрын
Calling hinata emotionally intelligent and the consequences of his actions as intentionally brought, is a disservice to Suga's character and his emotional intelligence. Hinata's just upbeat, upfront, and energetic. That's what positively affects people. Hinata tries sometimes, but that's not what helps people. For example, if a child sees an adult person being sad and gives them their balloon/candy, thinking the balloon/candy will make them feel better, then does the possession of having a balloon or candy makes the adult feel better or seeing a cute small child smiling and trying to make them feel better would help them? Would finding a balloon/candy in the park have the same effect? Would receiving them from another adult have the same effect? Similarly, it's hinata's personality, and not his actions resulting from argued emotional intelligence that helps people.
@seekittycat
@seekittycat 7 ай бұрын
@@ramansgdeep Not to dive too deep into spoilers but Hinata demonstrates his emotional intelligence by understanding when not to help. It's not like Hinata is mentally calculating but he IS emotionally aware of when to help, how to do it, and to who. In S1 when Tanaka was feeling down Hinata didn't know what to do to cheer him up. Hinata was scared of saying the wrong thing or even what to say. He had to learn how to communicate, just like Kageyama. Hinata's strong EQ simply means he picks it up fast and without guidance.

i would probably say Hinata isn't exactly emotionally intelligent, but it's like he has A LOT of empathy for EVERYBODY and he maybe can understand others REALLY easy and relate to their experiences wholeheartedly as like it's his own wins and loses. And also he is good at finding good at people, compliment it very openly, find common interests and talk, and talk, and talk (it's much more easier to find friends, if you can just talk a lot with the strangers, and compliments make people happier and more appeasable). He has no enemies, only competitors.
@amiratazkia

@@hmnuladno high empathy is high emotional intelligence, he doesn't have to be aware of it and he lacks "maturity" compared to suga's emotional intelligence. Hinata is the sunshine version of high EQ, when Suga is the wise/water-type kind of EQ. searing hot vs calming waves

"I've never heard a sentence that described my philosophy more than that" Is the reason why I think Haikyuu will be one of the greats for a long time. There's a character later that I had the exact same feelings to, and I think there are many characters for the many different types of people and none of them are really shown to be "wrong" just different. Haikyuu is a show with many philosophies that are surprisingly deep for a sports anime. I think you'll be running into this sentiment a lot.

Don't worry about the other's opinions about your reaction to Tsuki. Personally, I like your reactions towards Tsuki and Oikawa. They're the type of characters that would take some time to grow on you as you know and understand them better.

I agree sometimes I think people watching reactors have developed their love for characters so much they forget how they first felt about them too. Everyone I know took a long time to like tsukki but everyone is so quick to get mad when others don’t like him because they have the idea of later tsukki in their head and it changes how they look at him now so they forget why people don’t like him yet

6:35 Not sure if you caught on, but Yachi's mother seems to be a single working mom in a competitive corporate world. Yachi mentioned that she's working in a design firm, and she's probably at a managerial level since that guy calls her "senpai" meaning she's his senior. As such, she has to be passionate about her work, as well as strong will and probably a bit ruthless as well. That's pretty much what she's trying to instill onto Yachi, not ruthlessness, but passion. And she's right about it being rude joining a group of passionate people when you're half-assing it. She just didn't convey it in a nicer way.
@CactuarNick

Also when she says "I'm counting on you for breakfast" she's basically admitting that she appreciates Yachi's help and she's counting on her since she doesn't have the time. I fucking LOVE Yachi's mom.

good call out. I think she's easily misunderstood by reactors. it could be also a cultural difference with how asian parents are harsh with their children - could it have been conveyed in a softer manner? probably. she means well especially about the passion thing - she's respecting how hard the athlete's are working so I didn't really understand how it came off as narcissistic. i'd say it's even humble to validate other people's effort.

The thing about Yachi's Mum I think speaks a lot about the difference in asian culture in general cause when I first watched it I (an asian) saw nothing wrong about how she talked (cause thats how parents normally talk) but I know she means well. I think its also implied that she is a single mom so usually single moms want their child to be as tough as nails because of how they needed to be tough/cold to raise a child alone. But thats just my take on it

I agree, in most Asian households (in general), gentle parenting is still not a very popular idea. Most I've seen from experience are all about tough love, especially considering she is probably a single parent and first time parent

I think part of the thing with Yachi is, as we see with her academics, she's competent enough that she can get by without too much effort on things she doesn't care a lot about (something she has in common with someone like Tsuki), AND she's anxious enough that she finds it hard to throw herself into caring about something without massively overthinking it--and that's before you throw in the high-achiever, tough-love mother (who does care, but inadvertently puts a lot of extra pressure on her!). But she WANTS to be able to approach things like Hinata and Kageyama do; she admires it a lot even though she struggles to understand it. (I'm NOT very competitive, so really relate to that aspect of her.) She grows so much in this episode; making the choice to try something new and actually go for it, realizing that she can get really excited about this sport she knows nothing about, and also realizing that she has skills of her own that they need: no one else (not even Kiyoko!) could have been that useful a tutor or helped with the fundraising problem the way she did. Hinata seeing himself in the same shop window where he first saw the Little Giant is beautiful; I tear up every time.

I think season 2 episode 2-3 have the most impressive bits of technical writing in the entire series. The sheer scale of truly comprehensive characterization and rapid development of both Yacchi and her mom all crammed into two episodes with the perfect balance of depth, pacing, and emotional payoff by the end is worthy of awards. Her first comment caught me off-guard too (as I'm sure was intended) but her reaction when her assistant calls her out on it tells you everything you need to know about her character - she worked hard to get where she is now with very little encouragement or support so she expects the same from Yacchi, but it's clear that she struggles to connect with her on a personal level. Looking at it through that lens, everything she says & does for the rest of the episode makes perfect sense.

13:53 ok can i just say, overlooking the fact that the girl's changing scene was extremely tastefully done, it's even better because of this scene happening in the exact same episode. At first you think it's just a sneaky fanservice moment (which, to be fair, it *could* be), but then they do the EXACT same thing for the guys. Idk, it's a really small detail but I love how easily they level the playing field.

Yachi became such a beloved character so quick for me. After this episode she shot up so far up my list and currently she’s my favorite non-player character in this show. I empathize so much with some of the things she does or says, I feel she’s the representation of those of us who don’t play volleyball and are amazed at what we see each time we watch a match. (Well I HAVE played volleyball, but kinda casually, so I’m counting myself as that 😂) As always, great reaction man, and don’t worry about responding “late” to the comments, you sharing your thoughts in the video is more than enough and with all the people here, it’s completely understandable if you can’t get through all the comments that quick anymore. You were very spot-on in your theory last episode that Yachi has a strict parent. I relate to her so much too. I practically have the same story. Single mom who had to be tough in work and in life because she had to raise me alone. On her desire to make sure I get a better life than her, she pushed me too hard in academics; and for the most part, I excelled in school because I like learning and am an introvert. It was after school that effed me up. My social skills are below average. I was raised to be a perfectionist. In school, if i don't get perfect grades, it just boils down to a lower number or letter in my record. But in real life, I feel like if I fail, the world will end. Now, mom says I'm too paranoid and anal. "Well who was hyper strict with me huh?" hahaha I'm still working on myself haha

I've always said that strenght (regardless of what definition of strenght you're using) is a paradox. The strong are the ones who are never satisfied and cast away their strenght to gain a new, higher limit. That said it is important to recognised that nothing is perfect and so it is okay to be hapoy with oneself and be proud of your accomplishments in order to keep a healthy outlook on it all. Sorry if I started to sound preachy and lecturing, that isn't my intent, I just find this perspective very interesting and wanted to share my thoughts. At the end of the day you play sports for fun, and in my experience losing just isn’t that. But if you’re never satisfied with yourself, naturally that isn’t fun either. It’s all about finding the middle ground, and what that means is different from person to person. How great is this community btw? Good on you for bringing your opinions to the table, man. To be fair to you (and I'm in the future from this video so ik you already have some idea now lol), most everyone else coming to watch has seen this series through to the end and we've seen characters reach the end of their journey and have had the final/fully realised version of the character for a long time so it's a contrasting perspective. I'm someone who greatly admires passionate/competitive people because I often struggle to ignite that fire for myself - I find that energy infectious. I think the only danger of it is that it can turn into obsession, by which I mean if you let everything else (like your health and such) fall to the wayside in singular pursuit of something. But so long as it stays healthy, I personally think it's admirable. And I'm surprised Yachi resonated with you as much as she did but I'm so glad, she's a favourite of mine.

Please don’t be too down about aggressive Tsuki defenders, they’re operating on knowledge from further ahead than you and expecting you to magically know all of his character growth. As it stands right now, he’s a little shit who needs a good whack with Ennoshita’s ruler lmao Hinata needs to give a masterclass on yapping. His IQ? Rock bottom. His EQ? Sky high like his hops

Man I've been gettin late these weeks, I FAILED YOU!!! Anyways... I love how Hinata is portrayed in these last episodes. Hinata really is a sunshine (I mean... His name is literally "Sun") that knows how to cheer people, even with his upfront personality, he knows what to say or how to help if he notice someone is in need. We love our little Yachi too, from now on she has something to cheer on, and has people that will cheer for her ❤

i'm on the opposite end if the competitive spectrum where i don't have a competitive bone in my body but i always give 120% of my effort. i played volleyball in high school and only got game time because of this. i was never the best on my team or the most enthusiastic but they always had me in back row (realized later that i was one of the liberos but my rookie coach never used the term) because if the ball came my way, i always managed to get it up. i don't have much else to say, i just wanted to give my personal experience as someone with no competitiveness lol for me, it's not about winning but more about surpassing what i feel are my own limitations, if that makes sense

Yachi is such a great addition to the show representing the majority of us 😅 I also love that you share your opinion, I know the fandom is passionate but everybody has their own point of view as long as we aren't rude, I hope you don't get discouraged with people not agreeing with you tho

7:57 one thing i really appreciate about haikyuu is the lack of fan service. Any scene with the girls in a state of undress is very much non sexual. There is the one moment where kiyoko is introduced (very mild for anime) and the boys being pervy occasionally (they're teenage boys) but that is like nothing compared to a lot of shounen series. It's also one of the reasons I think the author might be a woman lol. No evidence for it, just a vibe I get

@Timerin

I'm also not a supporter of how the mother handles it, but she does have a point with stating: "if she gets discouraged by me, she will get discouraged by smaller things too" though I think it should still be in the interest of the mother to support her (wrote this before listening to your opinion) [After hearing] I think the narcissistic idea is an interesting view, though you have only seen a small part of the mother yet, I think it's an interesting theory to state that from what you have seen till then. [Edit1]: I just love how cold the scene is when Hinata says: do you need a reason not to not want to lose? In general, I think Hinata has some cold moments in season 2, the war declaration, this scene, I think even some more scenes I don't remember right now in the future! [Edit2]: you are finally pausing more, and this is totally fine! Take your time to talk your mind out! Even if the show explains something a few seconds afterward! We are here to listen to you! And me personally, I'm a rather competitive person, and in my opinion, there is no reason to be ashamed of not wanting to lose! If you are the only one with that will on the team, then spark even stronger for them. [Edit3]: Because of the thing you said about Hinatas emotional intelligence, if you like what he is currently doing for others without noticing, then wait for the beginning of season 4, it has some banger emotional scenes again! [Edit4]: I'm interested about what you think of her mother now.

No apology necessary for the late replies to comments! You still trying to reply to every comment even with your channel blowing up and maintaining such regular high quality reactions is a feat of its own but the fact that you even felt so bad about replying late that you had to apologise speaks to how much you love your audience. It's a crazy sight to see but very refreshing and humbling honestly. It's been a great journey so far so just know we all really appreciate the reactions as well as the comments, you're really making it feel like just watching with your friend group like you always say 😅 try not to put too much pressure on yourself though, I think I can speak for everyone when I say we'd rather you slow things down a little bit if you're struggling rather than push through and end up burning out before you get through the series.

Yachi's mom is presumed to be a single mom. She provides for her and Yachi so sometimes its more acceptable if the child pitch in some chores at the house. Idk how it works in other countries but that's how it was here in some parts of Asia. And Yachi's mom really comes off as a strong independent woman and her words really needed some phrasing. And Tsukki will never do that welcome pose lmaoooo

I don't get people who getting upset if you don't like the character. They already have a chance to get full opinion about Tsukki and you still learning about him. I hated Tsukishima at the beginning but after some time he grown on me and now he is one of my favourites but still when I'm re watching Haikyuu I don't like him at the beginning but now I understand his motivation because I already watch it. And I still dislike Yachi's mom and I know people would get angry at me for that. So please don't stop vocalising your opinion because people will be upset, we watching you because we want to know what are you thinking!

Technically what Yachi's mom said is a mindset of respect that is ingrained in japanese culture in which can be misinterpreted, this mindset can also be foud in most asian countries but it is more noticeable in japan. BTW Great video as always, I love how you breakdown scenes and emotions of characters and how you compare and contrast it with your experiences. Thank you for sharing these exp. with us 😊 . Edit as for the meetings, Japan just has a bad case of overworking everyone, my uncle although not overworked by his company they would regularly hold meetings and business trips

Also, you're supposed to hate Tsukki, he has a journey just like everyone else does but it feels like he's the last one so it takes awhile. The commenters can't seem to put themselves back in Season 1 or 2 when you're SUPPOSED to feel this way about people so you can be surprised later. They really are ruining his arc for you by telling you how amazing he is when nothing has fucking happened yet. You're supposed to dislike him, keep doing what you do. ALSO: Yes, Nishinoya was considered one of the top prospects when picking his school, I think he won the award for Best Libero kind of like how Kageyama and Oikawa won the Best Setter awards? Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

we asians experience more brutal tough love parenting than Yachi's mom shows in this episode. but we don't think it is bad, we still love our parents, and we appreciate and understand as we got older. Aside from her not being able to vocalize her intentions, you can see Yachi is in good terms with her mom. Yachi learned design (through her notes and ability to create a poster) which would indicate that her mother does give time to her. If not, Yachi wouldn't.

There's nothing wrong having an opinion about someone based on how their actions came up to you. Everyone have different opinion and way of understanding a person. And the fact that Tsukki always being sarcastic and being a "little" shit all the time didn't help. He still not letting us see his inner child and worries or his true self.
