the answer is simple....ban all chemical fertilizers..put TruGree and Chem Lawn and companys like that out of business... that simple step would solve 80% of the problem...not just in florida but all over the country..

This is ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY HORRIFIC !!!! I have lived in S.W. Florida since I was 8 years old . I am now 48 yrs. Ruined , ruined , ruined !!! The greed and development are finally paying the price . Most other parts of the world call it DEFORESTATION not development. We used to be able to swim in our rivers and on our coastal waters no problem. We used to be able to catch and eat some of the most beautiful and deliscious fish in the entire world. Well , No mas ... It's all been destroyed. I am with a heavy heart and great sadness , looking for another place to call my home . The list of bad things here is too long now . You can't even take a moonlight stroll on the beach with your girl , after dinner , after sundown actually. Because it is illegal to park at our own public beaches or accesses in Bonita Springs Fl. REDICULIOUS !!!! I have tried a few times , and am always hunted down by a Lee county sheriff's deputy with his flashlight and angry shouts . It's too crowded , expensive utility extortion , and ever failing traffic systems are a few nightmares . Don't get me wrong , I loved this area with all my heart , but I can't watch it all rapidly flushing down the wealthy developers toilet anymore . Most Sincerely , J.U.

@WiseSilverWolf
@WiseSilverWolf 6 жыл бұрын
+Justin Uranus You could always move to North Florida like Jacksonville, they have nice beaches over there too and since their North of the Lake I dont think they get the runoff that far north. The only bad part about moving to Jacksonville is that the wages are lower and I heard crime rates are pretty high up there.
@henryhawkins1194
@henryhawkins1194 5 жыл бұрын
Justin you nailed it. I live in Ft Myers, and the greed is so much alive here with development. This is far from the area I moved to forty years ago. I understand the need for development, but not over development. It's getting pretty serious down here.

I claim the prize money. With it I will buy all the sugar farms south of Lake O. and then let the water go back to the Everglades where the native plants will suck the nutrients out before discharging in Florida Bay. Problem solved! We have known this for over a decade, the question is why hasn't Rick Scott bothered to do it!!

Since one of the root causes seem to be urban development and commercial agricultural practices...why don't lawmakers and interest groups in SW Florida propose some moderate regulations and make those developers and commercial farmers pay for the cleanup? Also, if this is a reoccurring problem, why don't they revamp the Lake Ochekobee (?) facility?

What we need to do is use that runoff and substitute algae that is actually useful and non toxic. That’s literally feeding those organisms. We can feed other organisms that would give us oil, feed, and other things. On top of that, you would help clean up what the sugar industry has been putting out. So you’re helping not only Lake Okeechobee and the estuaries, but you’re also helping the sugar industry and everyone else near the water, Besides harvesting them for things like a chemical plant and supplying the feed industry

I dont see how the seaweed from the Gulf of Mexico can extend to Africa when the gulf stream pulls air and warm currents north along the eastern coast of the US and crosses the Atlantic to Europe much further north than Africa. So what is pulling it into the Atlantic ocean to Africa?? It all sounds a little suspicious to me. Could it be someone is making ocean chemtrails?? Just asking.?????

It might be a little late, but in case it happen again (most likely. It happen 2016) why don't they extract the algae and convert it into Energy? Seemed like a silver lining that people are not looking at or studying. Like why did the algae grow so fast. Can we use that in a control environment. As well, algae eat Co2. This could be good for companies with too much Co2 issues.... A lot of things are toxic, but it does not mean it's all bad. If we know how to use it properly, we can change a bad into a good. P.s where is my 10 millions from private companies for offering a potential solution to this problem? Okay, I'll settle for 3 million since it's only an idea. For real money, I might actually offer a do-able solution. Message me. :-) PPS: I could be kidding, but if I see the greens (not talking about the algae) I might change mind and try my hand at the solution. So it's clear, 10 millions for the solution, and 3 millions just for the idea.

The amount of absolute ignorance here is appalling! You morons shouting "Shut them down!" are saying this out of emotion only - these companies can be handled "in-house", what you're suggesting would mean they close doors(hurting the local people and economy) and just move to a foreign country such as China or India who have absolute 0 regard for the environment! These companies aren't the enemy here, the lack of peoples involvement in environmental protection are the enemy. And people are consistently going to distance themselves from belligerently ignorant and militant style activism, and have a largely negative perspective on the entire subject matter when people are getting belligerently ignorant.
