This Toxic Crusaders NES game is from 1992 (the copyright said 1991) and the NES console is from 1985. It is based on the animated series Toxic Crusaders (1991) and Troma's 1984 movie The Toxic Avenger, off of syndication in the early 90's.

I believe this game game out toward the end of the nes' life. I did rent it. I liked it. It was a good rental. It was a better buyou billy. Did i spell that right? Lol.

I was baffled that they took the Toxic Avenger and made a kid's cartoon out of him in the first place. Releasing an NES game of that is even MORE baffling. Surprised they didn't make a cartoon out of Debbie Does Dallas.

I am not sure why a lot of "adult properties" from the 90s had their own version "family friendly" for kids. Robocop, Mortal Kombat, this one and the ghostbuster are an interesting examples, I guess the studios wanted to make a buck from the properties and make the day of a child in the progress. I also I guess this something that only could have happened in the 90s. (19XX - 1 / 201X - 0)

What's to be surprised about? While the movie is certainly far from kid friendly, the obvious reason for this cartoon's existence was TMNT, which also started out in a very not kid friendly (but not as brutal) series of indie comics. They even had the same animation production company and toy distributor as Turtles (MWS, Playmates respectively). Of all the TMNT wannabes around that time, this was the closest in spirit, and felt more like a brother series than a clone. More than I can say for when they made that mid Rambo cartoon because of the success of G.I. Joe.

If nothing else, at least they were pretty faithful to the source material here, with the villains/enemies and the stage designs. It was a short-lived cartoon, so they didn't have a lot of material to work with either. Oh well, there are worse NES games out there. Plus, the soundtrack is pretty cool!

Funnily enough I found the Toxic Crusaders 'movie' (The first 5 or so episodes spliced together minus credits and some jokes - this was a legit release, not a fan edited thing) on youtube and watched it the other week. I will point out that I find it funny Toxie never really wore a bandana in the cartoon but his action figure and this game show him wearing one.

Okay, so first thing that comes to mind, is that your sprite looks like a grotesquely disfigured Ninja Turtle of some sort. Guess it makes sense, 'cause radioactivity, but still. Second, umm..."Toxie" here appears to armed with...a mop? Okay...cool. I guess it's got some kind of early 90s charm to it, though, like I guess they're some type of ugly-cute mutated superheroes, it was a cartoon that was basically a toy line ad, inspired by Ninja Turtles, and of course, with the token hot human lady, Yvonne.

This game WOULD have been fun had it not thrown such a sharp difficulty spike as soon as you hit the underwater level. The last level of the game is almost unplayable.

Well, it sure looks easy for the beat'em-up portions. Man, Psycho's Submarine fight looks outright half-assed... Bandai couldn't give the player the ability to use the rest of Toxie's crew after saving them? For shame! I can see this being better than Attack of the Killer Tomatoes or Bartman Meets Radioactive Man. And how might this compare to the LJN titles Wolverine and Punisher? (I played the latter, pretty decent though I could never get the Supergun twice on the Kliegg stage and the Kingpin boss fight was unfair with the explosive shots and overhead swings)

I'd put it below Wolverine for sure. That game was a bit obnoxious at times, but I really liked it. This one feels like a cheap knock-off of Ninja Turtles 3. And I think The Punisher is a good game, but I can't say I like it very much. So, if this makes any sense, Punisher is definitely a "better" game than this one, but I'd still rather play Toxic Avenger.

I bough the ninja turtles game fro mthe store when I was like 8. Then I got this game, but the text and pictures were different. Supposedly of a guy who dresses up in ninja turtle outfit and fights crime. This game was sold as a ninja turtle game. Fuckers. And it was bought from a big official store. Back then things were different it seems. No problem selling fakes, passing them for originals.

Seriously, who thought that was a good idea? Hahaha. Emulating it makes it a lot better, though, since you can just assign the select button to whatever button on your gamepad is most convenient.

Hey, Hello Alex, before this video you haven't uploaded videos in a few days, I was worry for you and this is one rare ocassion where you haven't wrote an extra comment about the game in the comments of the videos, I hope everything is okay in your life but I guess is that you are too busy in this moment for upload videos at all. About the game I am too young for talk about the movie and the tv show but seems like the movie was traslated to my language and called "The chemical man", I am not sure about the tv show. Also searching a bit of information there says the movies had a lot of ultra violence, dark humor, sex scenes and more "not family friendly" subjects but the tv show removed everything that can make your granny screams and the tv show was "family friendly" with a ecologist message, may Zen Intergalactic Ninja and Capitan Planet are proud of the "Chemical Man". About the game I have seen not very positive comments about the game, but I will trust in your word about it, Alex. Seems like an interesting game, I heard that you can inflict more damage to the enemies pressing the punch button and select at the same time, sounds a bit clunky but I am interesed about this interesting choice design. Bandai release a lot of games for the NES, maybe I will try this one someday, the pixel art is pretty cool. At least we can say that the "chemical plant" is less toxic that a lot of people out there!!
