In this video we discuss the toxic look a like to the cattail. That's right the cattail has a toxic look a like! The Iris looks similar but only by looking closely when we're out can we distinguish them. The flowers is one way but what if there are no flowers? Could you tell them apart? When you're out in early spring and trying to gather some cattails, make sure you have the right plant.

Nice video, cattail is such a good staple food. You can use the starches from it as a nice binder to make wild bread.

Absolutely, the roots make a good source of starch, and the flower spikes that are releasing pollen are also good to use for flour too. Appreciate you so much Daniel!

Was a beautiful cannabis plant growing at the end with cattails! Cannabis is the best medicinal herb you can find

Lol what?? No it wasn't cannabis. This video was filmed in an area I frequent a lot during my years and trust me, there's no cannabis growing there. I will agree that it is a pretty good medicine though!

What about yucca plant?
@TrilliumWildEdibles
@TrilliumWildEdibles 6 жыл бұрын
It doesn't grow in the same type of habitat nor is it toxic that's why I didn't cover it, plus this was my very first video on this channel so it wasn't the best. Thanks for asking!

Trillium: Wild Edibles I have yuccas in my yard. Not sure what type as I don't remember its flowers and size before it got ran over. But it is evergreen and was aperently a diameter of about 3 feet with white flowers but didn't grow up like a vine.

We have a few species of Yucca here in my state but they are in areas I can't harvest them due to laws, however I'd like to do a video on them in the future. Quick question about the Yuccas. Were the white flowers growing on a stalk? If they were, was the stalk wood like in the winter? There are two species of yucca I know of. One is known as Soapweed or Yucca glauca by its scientific name. The other species is known as Adam's Needle or Yucca filamentosa by its scientific name. If you have the Peterson guide to medicinal plants of eastern United States they are listed on pages 25 and 26. If not you can type in the scientific names listed and find plenty of resources that could be of help. Also those two species produce white flowers on a wood like stalk. Hope this helps some and I apologize for not having a video on Yuccas yet.

Trillium: Wild Edibles I can't remember last time it flowered was like 6-8 years ago. Also I'm not sure if its native as from my resurch yuccas don't seem to live in mass I haven't even seen the flowers just the plant but I showed a picture of yucca flowers to my mom who's seen the flowers and she said they were identical.
