As the song goes, "The road is long, with many a winding turn." Too many gunners are out there so quickly stressing the negative, emphasizing the low acceptance rates and slim chances of admission. Your 503 MCAT, alongside multiple acceptance, was not only good news but it was also very encouraging.

Wow!! Just found your channel. Great video! I am a premed, non-trad student going into medicine as a 2nd career. Needless to say, I've already heard my fair share of naysayers. This was some great advice. I'm about to binge watch the rest of your videos. Thanks for putting these out there. Great job!🎉

This was great advice! I also feel that the premed culture is a little toxic because of the lack of knowledge of the other fields of medicine too. MD/DO isn’t the only route in the U.S to become a physician. We have DPM (Podiatric physicians/surgeons), ND (primary care physicians) that are licensed in 23 states, Maxillofacial surgeons who attend dental school, then 2 years of med school, then 4 years surgical residency (they graduate with both DDS and M.D.) etc… The problem is the god complexes of premeds and the disrespect of other fields coming from Advisors and all due to their ignorance of the other fields in medicine. Some advisors will discourage you from med school simply because they don’t understand that there’s other ways to become a doctor as well… it’s ridiculous.

Question: How would I get a car for college if I cant work while attending but need one? Do you think I could speak with the financial aid office about increasing my needed amount by about $7K so I can get a cheap, old car through the private student loans? I know you cant use federal student loans for that. But my home is across the state and I will be staying in family housing. Pursuing a BSN (Nursing degree) as a pre-med means I'll have to be able to drive to the hospitals where they teach us, and I'll need to work during my summers. I chose nursimg because it will help me get clinical hours as well as decent pay if I dont get into med school immediately. I habent started yet, and I have a lokg way to go. I am about to go pre-nursing and pre-med as a nontraditional transfer adult student whose been out of school for 17 years but has 43 college credits, 4.0 GPA, and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society status. I'm terrified, but I NEED to do this. I've wanted it for ywars and tried to work toward payimg off my house and saving for colege for years and finally was at a point where I just can't try to save for college anymore and have to just take out student loans. At least the house is paid off, but parts of it have caved in, with a collapsed ceiling and floor..., and I cant live like this anymore. I'm dying inside, and I dont want to lose my dream. But the scholarships I have seen from the OU arent great for someome in my position. I am HOPING to be able to get more so I wont owe $400K by the end of my 13 years of learning so I can become a cardiothorqcic anesthesiologist. The only thing that makes pursuing my dream financially feasible is the income I would make as an anesthesiologist. Having extremely tough times here. Hard to not lose my sanity when I worked 17 years only to discover that the insurqnce refused to cover the roof when it began leaking. Or anything else as problems with our house began to spread. Th3 ceiling literally collapsed over my mother-in-law's bed on top of her 4 days after she had heart surgery. She is broke. I dont have a job anymore cuz they illegally fired me to slim down their crew, and i tried to get help from a lawyer, provided the documentation and cross referenced state statutes and policies to prove it was an illegal firing because I was a protected status, and nothing. He wouldnt take it and ran out the time and I couldn't afford a lawyer. I haven't been able to get a job since. My husband barely makes $15/hr. We made $60 too much for food stamps and dont even have health insurance anymore..........😭 I've already been theough homelessness and survived domestic violence and other horrors. I want to put good into the world and heal people and heal pain. I want my life to also change for the better. I never give up, but I had a HUGE dip in mental health after I was assaulted 2 years ago, and it's been hit after hit after hit every since. Was bedridden for 3 months because I didnt want to live anymore. I've gotten better there, but life is still punching and kicking.

What are the requirements to get into the med school?
@JoshKorzan Жыл бұрын
I would recommend reaching out to a premed advisor at your school or the school that you're looking to complete the pre-reqs at. The requirements are pretty consistent across the board for US medical schools. But a premed advisor will be able to provide a more tailored response on what classes you'll need to take based on your academic history. Hope that helps!
