And I know that Zo’s advice is coming from a place of good but we need to be careful what we normalize, parents are not always right and children should not have to accept their wrong doings, they should be called out on those behaviors. Telling a child to accept the abuse of a parents can lead them to accept abuse in relationships when they get older because they have been conditioned to shut their mouths and take it

The first story. A toxic parent has nothing to do with the child. I have a toxic parent and growing up was so hard that it made me really start questioning who I was and I was made to feel like I was worthless. I even thought about suicide, Sis it's not you momma has some deep rooted pain that she needs to heal from. You can love your mom but sometimes you have love a parent from a far.

No seriously. My mom has 7 kids and she didn’t have the best education so when it came to school she let all my sibling drop out . I was the first to actually graduate high-school etc . I’m #6 by the way , and I swear it was like she was hoping I’d drop out . She only came to honor roll stuff never any extra curricular. Everyone's situation is different. What might have worked for you might not for her. It's always best to try before giving up. My mom was toxic and hit me for ever damn thing, she was 17 when she had me. Even told me I ruined her life...trust I contemplated suicide out of stress...but after becoming an adult, we sat down and had a deep conversation, cried and now we are in a better place. Now she's mom...before she was her "first name". Everyone deserves a chance to be understood; if she still acting toxic after the talk, then leave...let her reach out.

She’s suffering from her own trauma and while it’s no excuse, we must remember that it isn’t them. It’s a spirit. Once you’re old enough to move out, do it. You don’t have to put up with a person just bc they hold a certain title. TRUST ME!! I’m 27 now and my mother and I FINALLY get along bc I STOOD MY GROUND. I don’t agree with the notion of “ask yourself what you’re doing to make your mom like this”. That just blames the victim, which is horrible. Her mother is a grown woman that made her own choices to be a single parent and she’s taking her issues out on her child. I’ve had to live with my toxic parent for so long and I tried so hard. But in the end, I just moved out. She has her own issues to figure out and I won’t be her punching bag whenever she’s not in a good mood. The first girls experiences are completely valid and are in no way a reflection of what she did to make her mom that way. Of course a parent most of the time) is going to always want the best for their child and ask them to clean up and not go to a certain place. But there is a huge line between parenting and abusing. Anyway, I do love this series as much as I love Messy Monday ❤️❤️

@1400baby X so true.... I really hope she didn’t listen to that advice because that will definitely send her into feeling worse than she already feels. Dealing with a toxic parent, you feel as though you’re always wrong in the first place
@yakyim21144 жыл бұрын
@1400baby X i don't think he meant it as blaming the child but in my experience, especially with my sisters They would talk back to my mom do things that would make her upset then they would all get into the yelling and cussing battle it was very toxic. My mom would do the same thing she'd come into the room say something my sisters didn't like and I had to be the one to sit her down and tell her what she did wrong. Now we may not know what this happens in her household but I know when I make someone upset I do sit back to myself and say "hey what did I do to make them feel this way" Then I'll go back try to talk it out and work on things. On the other hand her mom could just be really toxic and the girl is doing her best to listen to her mom and her mom just pops off. At that point it's time to save up and love from a distance. if one is too young to do that. I would honestly stay out of that parents way and try to distance myself within the house or just go elsewhere when I could. Sorry for the long reply dealing with a Toxic parent is never easy =(
@davinahill13924 жыл бұрын
I fully agree with this thru and thru but I promise nobody chooses to be a single parent I’m sure her mother didn’t think she’d be doing it all alone whether she continued to have kids or not whatever that case maybe...But I understand fully the right views of having a toxic parent damn near everybody has one or had one

Nyree Dixon Fr do not sit there and be compliant to the abuse, you’re further allowing them to continue on with the abuse. What’s funny is that Zoe said the same thing my dean and history teacher said, no matter if your stressed out with work and paying bills and other things that gives no excuse for abuse. When you choose to be a parent you sign up for taking care of us, I couldn’t agree with Zoe on that part but I still love and respect him.

@leggz84804 жыл бұрын
Of course, you can ask yourself “what am I doing to cause this?” However, there may be something from your mom’s past that makes her act out on you. Is it just you she does this to? Name calling or other toxic behaviors may be something that her mother did to her. Single parents have it hard…especially our beautiful black single moms and exhaustion can come out in all sort of ways. Sometimes, it is simply not the child’s fault or doing, that makes a parent act the way she acts. Something is hurting her and hurt people hurt people. Ask her about her and her mom’s relationship. Some clues may into the story she tells about her past family relationships that you don’t know quite yet.

thats why i encouraged friend to TALK to mom, communicating goes a longgggg way. you'll be shocked what you learn talking to your parents. kids tend to shut down and think parents are being mean just build a love hate relationship instead of talking.... not saying mom is right but they need to TALK

No no. Like i get what friend sayin, but theres a difference between upset and toxic. When someone is upset yes sit and look at it from their perspective, see what u did, what they did, all the hooplah. But TOXIC, baby you cant fix toxic thats sum that person gotta do. I went through the same with my mom. Once it hits that line you need to separate yourself from that person. Not sayin to be like "F**K YOU MAMA" but just emotionally disconnect yourself from that person to preserve you spiritual and mental state.

Story #1: It is NOT the child's responsibility to take on adult/parent problems. I've had to deal with my own mother's issues that she's had since her teens. Hence my mother was a teen mom. It took me about the age of 26 to realize that my mother's issues, hang ups, or strong holds are NOT mine. I love my mother very much but respectfully so I still try to be the best daughter that I can be and not what she or others want me to be. You'll never be able to appease or satisfy others if they are not happy or satisfied with themselves. Her mom is hurting and is portraying that out on her. Now she has to decide to either feed into it and allow the hurt to transfer to her or take what she knows and use it to empower and build herself up. Continue to respect your mom and if you can yes, try to have a civil conversation with her to see if you can find out where she's coming from .

I felt the first story I went no contact with my mother 4 years ago. It was the best decision l made. Sometimes your parent is too toxic to make amends. My mother will be never be at my wedding. She will never know when I have children. I will never attend her eventual funeral. And she has only herself to blame
@NOLAbae914 жыл бұрын
I had a very toxic upbringing. And every time I try to be honest with my parents they just shut me down so now I just deal with them when I feel like it. Thanks for covering this topic.

Her toxic mother's attitude may not stem frm stress...it may come frm the way she was raised. She may not have anythng to do with why her mon mom acts tht way, it may be misdirected hate for her father or anythng. Talk to your mom bby girl but dnt automatically assume u are responsible for your mom's behavior. Pray first, ask God wht u need to do & wait....while waiting stay out of mama's way, do wht u should be doing & the answer will come. Even if its just a conversation God will let u knw wht to do & say & how to handle it. I'll pray for u too because I totally understand. It gets greater later bby girl.

For the first story, I encourage her to look up "narcissistic mothers." See if her mother meets those conditions and know that it's not you or your fault. :-)
@meggo0104 жыл бұрын
Agreed!! The advice was solid for a “normal” mother but for a mother that is narcissistic, her approaching her will be seen as criticism (and they can’t handle that) which could lead to narcissistic rage. Definitely research narcissism and see if your mother fits the bill! May need to limit contact in adulthood (once you leave the home).

Yoooo thats crazy I didnt think u was going to do another thats your story and btw I'm the third story. So what I did was I called him n asked why He wants to be with me or talk to me as friends and he was basically saying that we got stuff in common and that we're compatible whether we like each other or not which threw me in a loop like it didn't makes sense but my feelings took over and I ended up being friends with him anyway just to try it out, just Straight Talk, texting all of that. then when we were talking as friends we live close to each other so we met up a couple times because he was gonna leave off to college and I wanted to hang out with him before he left and then he mentioned he wanted to kiss me or whatever but we were both acting goofy at the time so we didn't really think about that too much but fast forward. Then we've been talking for a good month and next thing you know like we started to not be on the same page and with his sense of humor is started to not match mine so half the time he was serious I was joking and then when I a as serious hes joking so then I was just like OK this is not making sense n then I started losing feelings at the time so at that point i was like I don't care what he does when he goes out it's whatever we being cool friends. Then he started acting weird and I was getting fed up because he was being annoying so then at that point i was thinking bout cutting him off. I thought he was just toxic in a relationship but he just has a toxic immature mindset so i ended the friendship and then I saw my requests he was saying "O so can I still come for ur birthday" which was so random so then I just blocked him from my Spam acc and stuff so now he just watch my story n like my posts in my regular Instagram account. But ty for the advice tho❤😂
