- NAME OF MUSIC, COLORING AND DRAMAS IN THE DESCRIPTION - I use the term "form" to describe the aesthetics of audiovisual content, i.e. music, special effects, everything that shapes and is a way of presenting a story, a behavior, an object. I call "object" a behavior, here the unhealthy, violent behavior, with the warning signs of abuse, that is to say something that IS represented by the “form” but exists independently of it. - There is a difference between portraying an unhealthy relationship presented explicitly as such and promoting an unhealthy relationship by romanticizing unhealthy behaviors. - Here it is about romanticization of explicitly unhealthy behaviors. It is voluntary, it is a criticism to show the problem of the romanticization of unhealthy behaviors. This video was made as part of an academic project dealing with the special case of romanticization in an analysis of the consequences of the representation of unhealthy behaviors in kdramas. i have not yet decided whether i will include it, although it was my original plan. In any case, let me roughly explain the purpose of this video. It was meant to be included in a section of my explanation dealing with the discrepancy between the "form" (the music, the special effects) and the object (the unhealthy behavior) in the case of romanticization. The point is to show how uncomfortable it is to romanticize unhealthy behaviors when you use behaviors that are EXPLICITLY unhealthy. In the case of romanticization, we are not dealing with explicitly unhealthy behaviors, i.e. behaviors that are presented as such. Nor is it an implicit denunciation of unhealthy behaviors. It is a perpetuation of unhealthy behaviors by a romanticization of them. The purpose of this video is to show how disturbing the aestheticization of a relationship that is explicitly presented as unhealthy by the original work is. It is to show how the romanticization of behaviors that are not explicitly unhealthy is a problem, which is what I criticize in my explanation. When a creator takes a relationship that was presented in the original work as unhealthy and romanticizes it, everyone sees the problem (which I do here); but when a creator takes a relationship that was NOT presented in the original work as unhealthy and romanticizes it, no one sees the problem. Even though the "object", i.e. the behavior itself, is the same in both cases. It is just not presented in the same way in the original work. This video is therefore intended to show the difference between an explicitly toxic relationship, which I often call " portraying a toxic relationship " and a relationship that is neither implicitly nor explicitly toxic, which is presented as a healthy and normal relationship, which I often call " promoting a toxic relationship ". I don't know if I was clear in this comment that I wrote in one breath. But my explanation, done as part of my philosophy studies, is coming soon, to better clarify my point. In the meantime, I refer you to all my previous videos on the subject, and I thank you for helping me in the realization of this video. Thanks for watching, see you soon!

@raynajfernandez82002 жыл бұрын
👏👏👏You really are a kind and smart soul👏👏👏👏I can't Express how thankful I am towards you because many kids/teens/young adults grow up watching this and only when it's clearly shown in the media that this IS wrong on a regular basis do they understand what is wrong and what should never be allowed. I know some may say HEY IT'S JUST A TV PROGRAM DON'T TAKE IT SO SERIOUSLY. But how can I not? Human are creatures that learn by imitation and are constantly influenced by what thoughts surrounds them and if these kind of normalizing such gruesome things are shown as if it's NORMAL, not only are the ones who watch such things mostly prone to being in an abusive relationships but also accept- if they see or know of any real life people going through this- as "normal" And this normalizing would even make them say to the victim of an abusive relationship (may it be physical or mental) to continue in that relationship by "adjusting" by "enduring" " don't destroy a FAMILY" "Couples fight, it's normal" . Which makes a cycle of abuse and ignorance of abuse which would then be passed onto the next generation. I lice in India and i speak from experience. I grew up watching my physically and greatly manipulative(so manipulative infact that he was able to fool the law and the police and everyone around us)and mentally abusive father and my mother who couldn't escape even when she tried due to society's preaching (which I mentioned earlier). It makes my skin crawl when I see such things while searching just a good drama/movie to pass my time and leisurely enjoy myself. Once again really thanks for all you do and all the research and time and effort you put into this⚘⚘⚘⚘A new post from Your channel is the one I wait for the most in this platform.

i was curious if what you mean by a creator taking a relationship and romanticizing it would be like they did in the true beauty drama? since suho wasn't toxic like that in the webtoon? or would it be when someone is toxic in the webtoon and the author makes sure readers know it's bad behavior, but then a writer of a drama makes those toxic behaviors romantic and tells watchers that those behaviors are good?

I really like the song choice, it adds more than just a tinge of creepiness it adds obsession and toxicity of that relationship, some may think that the relationship is that rose in your garden but in reality they are the thorns. "Till I make you mine", many people think it's so romantic but it isn't if that person isn't respecting your choice.

In the beginning people won't notice what toxic behaviors were portrayed, but you could already see jealousy and controlling behaviors as you watch the video, you will see mentally abusive behaviors and almost at the end you will see physical abusive behaviors, it's not normal to grab or make your lover feel pain, as it is dangerous for someone's life, I'm 14 and still learning more about those subjects to protect myself in future relationships and protect myself so that my traumatic experience won't happen again. Thank you for making this video it helps me know about these subjects.

Great edit. I loved how you started this off with just the clips of them being in "love" or the toxic protagonist "showing their love". Then how it fades to the toxicity; the control & how they must know and be involved in everything about their partner. Lastly, how it ends in the abuse the victim must endure. It really was powerful and summarized really wonderfully how some toxic relationships can really progress and turn into.

My ex used to be like this. He's obsessive, possessive, and extremely jealous. He wouldn't let me hangout with my male friends. He wouldn't let me wear shorts. He stalks me on social media and at my home. He will get mad if I talked to guys or get close to them. He always threatened to break up if I get close to guys. He always victimized himself and made me feel bad by saying "what if I were to get close to any girls, would you like that?!". I had enough and am really glad that I end things with him 2 years ago. Now I'm going thru a self-healing process. I've been hurt enough.

At first, I was quite shocked by the music choice because the cutesy, romantic feeling was so jarring when paired with the video content. However, after a little while, it made complete sense. The video definitely made me uncomfortable (but in a good way!!!). Thank you Marie TB for making these types of videos ~ many Asian dramas like to romanticise these types of relationships, making it seem like the main female protagonist could be the one to ‘change’ the problematic male character. However, it is NEVER the female lead’s responsibility to do so. I think this translates well into real life too ~ however, this goes for all relationships. It is never someone’s responsibility to try and change someone else for the better. This video has definitely given me a new perspective on this song ~ the idea that someone ‘won’t stop’ until they make someone their significant other is actually really problematic and scary, and I’m glad these issues are being discussed in such an engaging way☺️☺️

I felt sad watching this compilation, knowing how real these kinds of relationships are in the everyday world around us and yet the entertainment industry plays on the emotions of gullible viewers, the majority of whom are still so naïve about toxic relationships. But is it really naivety or just an "I don't care" attitude because people like to think that such relationships are only limited to dramas? I say this because I was disturbed with some of the comments I read here on KZbin about the 2021 kdrama " Nevertheless" - so many people were rooting for the ML and FL to get together and couldn't understand what the big hype about how unhealthy their relationship was. People are truly veiled or in denial or couldn't care less about the seriousness of the romanticization of toxic relationships.

2:33 That's the worst thing I know. People who are using genuinely true tropes and sayings in order to manipulate the situation to their favor. A relationship does require trust, but that doesn't mean you guilt someone into it by saying so. I grew up with an abusive mother and she'd use a lot of sayings and platitudes in manipulative guilt tripping ways to make me feel bad. It's such a twisting and gaslighting of reality to say something that is true, but use it in a perverse way. It's why gaslighting overall is so insidious, making someone question reality, their emotions, dismissing them and their experiences. It's what makes it so hard to see it for what it is, because the best lie told is one with a little twist of truth, so using a saying or genuine insight into truths into life in order to further a lie puts a veil over it. Abusers do this a lot.

I think there are a lot of healthy relationships portrayed in kdramas especially these days pretty much all of these were not romanticized in the original series also some recommendations Strong women bo dong soon Vincenzo Suspicious partner W two worlds While you were sleeping Love all play Dr.romantic 2 Also some new ones Perfect marriage revenge King the land See you in my 19th life

Thank you for using this song! Bc I hate the shit out of it and how disturbing the lyrics is, yet the tone is so cheerful, man I hate it.😣

So far most of the shows I’ve seen in this list are surely disturbing, I’m so glad they weren’t romanticised in original sources either but the ones I feel much sad about is The World of the Married and Love in Sadness cause these ladies were stuck with these dude lawfully as their husbands. Having met at a really young age and being married right off “in love” whilst not having the chance to escape and face real meaning of love.

Lmao its funny cuz my lil brother used to play this song out loud and I'd listen to the lyrics and go "why does this happy upbeat song give me such stalker vibes" Esp the part about 'you know that i won't stop until i make you mine' sounds downright possessive & toxic. No wonder i never liked the song.

Why all the psychopath here so hot 🔥 literally but it's still TOXIC. Relationship like this may only look nice in dramas & movies but in real life it's like living in HELL .💫

I would prefer these kind of relationships to be called/pronounced as *SADDISTIC AND MASOCHISM*
