Waterlands are made in Malaysia. Wonder what the work conditions are like there. You could just flip the W over to make an M, for Mugatu. And they're incredibly poor quality for something that's over $120. But you get a commission, so that's alright.

Those red stringy things on the mahi (17:42) are parasitic copepods, aka anchor worms. I've personally noticed them a lot more recently on some of our northeastern fish species, especially adult menhaden.

I think you meant that those parasites were on the mahi, and you're right, we have them on our mahis in Hawaii too. They look like fringy parts of the fins and are a little off putting!

Thank you for the information about ciguatera poisoning and the fact that around where you fish it is extremely rare. What I've heard that if you put a piece of the barracuda out and the bugs and ants start eating it, that is an indication that the meat does not have the toxins. I loved all the variety of fish that you caught in two days. That hammerhead and the sailfish fight was awesome! We have caught some bigger barracudas in the Bahamas. The locals had no problems cooking and eating it. It was delicious! Amazing video as always.

I hate these fish, not to do with the meat. I am a spearfisherman, and when I dive reefs, often they stay hidden or hang around some bit away from you. As soon as you turn your back however, they come real close and give you that death stare same that they do to their prey. I’m not scared of sharks. I’ve had it once where a barracuda has followed me for a whole dive, I’ve had to scare it away, thinking I’m safe, only to find 10 minutes later this 1.5 meter beast with teeth like knives has followed and stalked me back to the boat and is a mere few feet from me. It gave me a jumpscare. I was kinda done for the day.

My old coworker told me about a time when he was learning to be an underwater welder, and one of his peers was wearing a silver chain. When they dove all together, they got to where they were going, and the instructor grabbed that person's head and shoved it down in front of his body. My coworker said he only saw a sliver of flash whiz by, and so the instructor immediately signaled to go surface. And once they talked, he clarified that the barracuda would've chewed that guy's neck up if he didn't react as soon as he did.

This reminded me of a deep sea fishing trip I went on with a coworker. My coworker asked me if I wanted to join the boat's pool of the largest fist catch of the day. I said sure and thought nothing of it after that. We were sitting in the gally talking on the way back to sore when we just happen to hear the crew begin comparing the pool catch of the day. So, not thinking we had any chance of winning. Someone pulled a halibut out of a bag and everyone said, "that's it. That's the winner". Until they opened the last bag that happened to be my bag. As soon as the deck hand pulled out my barracuda, the crowd all said "oooh"! at the same time. My barracuda was the largest fish caught that day. I took the pool. Shared it with my coworker. It paid for out total expenses for that day. I took it home and my sister cooked everything I caught. The barracuda was one of the best tasting fish that I caught that day. There was only one other fish that tasted better, but I don't remember the name of that fish. It was orange and had a spinney back that we all were warned not to touch because it causes swelling and a lot of pain if you are stung by it. That orange colored fish was one of the best tasting fish I have ever tasted. I think it is called a sculpin or California scorpionfish. The barracuda wasn't bad either.

Barracuda out near the LA coast is more pink and so is the Mahi too. Barracuda here have smaller heads, need to be 28 inches to be legal, grow pretty big over here. Mahi are rare in Cali but the passed two years have been phenomenal and their meat is reminiscent of Yellowtail(Hamachi). If you're ever out in Cali again Vik, try catching Mahi, Cuda and Yellowtail to compare the 3

I believe the cudas use you (us) as his bird dog, at least in water under ten feet deep... As we swim along they use us like we use flushing bird dogs. We spook something, it takes off after it , .....cuda snack. Cudas that know what fishermen are, are EXTREMELY hard to get them to bite.(at least in my experience with dock cudas) They KNOW what hooks are and what they look like. They will surgically snip a bait all around the hook, but never take the hook if they see it. I had to bury the hook in the bait before it would even THINK about hittin it. It KNEW I was there, it could see me and KNEW what I was up to. I think they are REALLY smart fish.

I think it’s funny what you said about the smell of Cuda when you catch them putting people off. I have eaten them in Mexico and Jamaica. Delicious. You know what absolutely stinks when you catch them and is sought after and expensive world wide? King salmon. They absolutely reek. Nothing about them smells good when you catch them, yet look at the price of them. I think it has more to do with what you are told as a child than the smell. You grow up believing a fish is trash then you find excuses to not try them.

Fun video. Your tartar sauce recipe is so good. I cheat and use dill or sweet relish already made.

I’ll be in fort pierce Florida soon and I love fishing and I watch your videos all the time. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on what I should target in the surf. I’ve never been to Flo before and I’ll be surf fishing and fishing the Indian river lagoon as well

That hammerhead was insanely powerful. You don't realize how powerful they are until you see them move all that water chasing prey.

Do you ever toast the buns when you make fish sandwiches? Or do you prefer the soft bread so the tar tar sauce can soak in?

I used to go a shooting 2' cudas a few years back underneath piers on weekdays like Anglins. I'd get easily 2 within 30 mins. Btw any time I cut them open I never seen a reef fish, usually baits ij the belly. Excellent tasting white meat fish!

We eat Barracuda in the Caribbean all the time, the protein content in that fish is very high. We scale, leave the skin on and fry those bad boys. Just make sure it’s cooked all the way through and you’ll be fine. People sleep on Barracuda all the time.
