Hey whats up guys in todays episode we take a look at the Limo LC-A+ and shoot some of lomography's 100 speed color film! This camera has a reputation of being a toy camera something that a lot of people don't take seriously. But in fact, you gotta try one out first before you can make an assumption on this camera! Surprisingly it yielded some interesting results and overall is a capable camera. Maybe not for every application but for some, this may be the camera for you! Hope you guys enjoyed the video! Drop a like for drew for helping me film this video! More to come and as always stay saucy #MinoltaGang!

I've been meaning to get the Lomo for some time and after watching your review i'm gonna try and get one at a low price considering the problem you had with the film door, i'm not sure if its a common problem but i don't like knowing that i payed so much for something that has a major problem, great review man looking forward to the next one :)

That's really cool that you now have a connection with Lomo, happy things are really taking off for you :) I might have to pick myself up a pack of lady grey as i am interested to see the results. I have the original Lomo company LC-A, the main difference is you can change your aperture on the other side of the lens, but the film speed only goes up to 400 i think. Great review and the picture of the kid with the sword is cool :)

I have a 1985 LCA (GOST not ISO units lol) and the design hasn't changed much at all. The remote shutter control and double exposure switch are new, but I had some success with double exposures just playing with the rewind button. The fact that you can manually change the aperture is handy for that. The back door is a problem for me too- it closes fine- but it doesn't sit flush with the body. No problems with the images though, but I need to replace the light seal. These cameras are known/notorious for the vignette effect you described because of the lens, but its just perspective on whether its a feature or a bug IMO. Good review, nice pics.

Nice video, as always ;) I also wanted this camera when I started shooting film, but then i got the Olympus XA and I’m so happy with it. The Lens is way sharper, and it has some other cool features like the Rangefinder and the back light exposure compensation. So I stick with my XA, for me it’s the better camera and also it is responsible for me finding your KZbin channel. Your XA video was the first one I saw. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Germany

I have used alsorts of cameras - film/digital, the lc-a+ is very handy for double exposures and split images. As a painter, I like to experiment with shape and colour, so this is ideal. I can do the same with my canon eos but don't often lug that around. Horses for courses.

Those exposures were on point. Now that astigmatism interferes with my vision, I may as well go with a zone focus camera. The Lomo looks like a good option. Thanks for the informative and well-produced review.

I love my Olympus XA, but I desperately want one of these so I can push to 1600 on days when I don't feel like carrying an SLR with me. Which brings me to my other point, I think you were shooting at the very limits of the camera because of the 100 speed film, and would have recommended starting out with the Lady Grey instead. Under the lighting conditions, the camera was having to pick wide open apertures and slower shutter speeds which both probably contributed to the blur. Most lenses don't perform at their best in the corners wide open, and the situation is even worse when you're zone-focusing and have to depend on depth of field instead of a rangefinder. So I really would have tried a 400 speed film before passing final judgement on the lens.

I have an earlier version of the Lomo LC-A that I purchased in 2001; the pre-2006 Russian-built model that still had the aperture lever & (I believe) a better lens. I have had great success with this camera. Pop in a roll of Fuji Reala 100, find some bright lights/colors, & you will get great results. This lens makes those bright colors/lights pop & pulls the contrast. Great for market stalls & neon lights. I love this camera!

Like always great video JP! I have to say I have similar concerns with my lomo L-ca, The softness of the lens can be a bummer some times but i have seen work from other photographer that use it to their advantage, talk about the dream like effect it gives and tremendous love for the cult aspect of this little thing :) ... a great photographer to have a look at, is Jorge Sato from Brazil and his amazing doble exposure with this cool camera :)

Thanks for the video, and nice shots! Quick question - I think you shot with ISO 100 film. Do you think if I used ISO 800 film, it would work better for street photos, because the camera would automatically raise the shutter speed? It just looks like some of the photos were blurred (subject blur) but sharp enough when the subjects werent moving. Maybe it was a cloudy day too. Just trying to understand the camera's limitations. (Mine's in the mail, waiting for it to arrive!)

I had one of these in the late 80s, I also had a very expensive Minox. I always reached for the lomo when I went fell walking because I liked the ‘liquid glass’ effect at the edges of the pictures. I’ve just bought an original Lomo Lca at a flea market for 50p ( yes 50p ) apart from the foam light seals it’s in full working order. Can’t wait to try it when I replace the seals.

Hi! I have a question, please bare with me. I too have been wanting a Lomo LCA forever! My Fiance finally got me one a few months ago. The film we got back, only 3 photos came out and they were blank. What am I doing wrong? I'm not new to film photography. What kind of film do you use? I had a kodak 200 35mm color ? Should i have done something differently? Did notice there was a little bit of plastic shavings when i was loading the film, we didn't buy it brand new. Just hoping the camera actually works :/ Thank you in advance!

Good video, as always BUT : I don't share the opinion that it's a " great" camera. Au contraire. The lc a+ isn't up to par with the original lca. Lens is different, looks are different. The original lca had much more vignetting, wich came in handy as it hasn't the sharpest of all lenses. I don't know if the colour film that came along with your lca+ was crappy/ expired or if it's due to the cam, colours do looked washed out, but not in a nice way. None of the shots were really tac- sharp wich could be due to the lens / flatness of film in the cam ( since you were having trouble with the latch ) , long expousre times because the film is a 100 iso speed, or simply the " new" lens. Any Olympus , Minolta, Nikon ( you name it ) can EASILY outperporm that camera. I have an original lca myself. I converted it with an instant back, so sharpness is no issue any more due to the smaller picture size . Sorry, but a 5$ triftstore find would be a better choice for any beginner. I can't see the point in spending 300$ for a camera like that. Unless, of course, one needs to be a " hipster " 😂

Hey Klaus, nice input there. I am a big fan of the original LC-A. Same as you, I tried both of the cameras myself and I have to agree the lens on my original LC-A is way sharper than my copy of the LC-A+. However, I just cannot emphasize enough about how useful the new ISO setting and the accessory track are on the LC-A+. It's a shame that they no longer manufacture the ones with Russian lenses. Guess I will just have to buy the lens part on evilbay and transplant it onto my LC-A+ someday.

I'm not sure how "hip" it is to pay $300 for a camera which might be worth $50, based on its features and optical performance. At Lomo, it seems that "hip" means "sucker", when you can use a Oly XA or Rollei 35 for much less money and actually get decent photos.

In Serbia, there is a saying that goes something like this, ''as long as there are sheep, there will be wool''. In my opinion, there are many kids who wanna look ''retro'' or yap about how film is cool and whatnot, while not really being interested in photography, and at the same time brag about how much they paid for their film camera. Makes me a little sick to be honest, because many cheap cameras have seen an increase in price because of this trend.
@randallstewart175
@randallstewart175 6 жыл бұрын
I wasn't aware of this trend in camera interest. I'm probably separated from those who would buy a camera to look "hip" by at least half a century. by all means, let them shop at LOMO, and while there get some film which no one else would waster their time shooting.
@manwhalejoe6962
@manwhalejoe6962 6 жыл бұрын
For me personally, another part of the equation is the difficulty in finding high quality used or vintage cameras. It can be easy to buy a 1970's camera that has something broken, or light leaks, or melting foam (in my OM-1), or stuck aperture blades (in my Olympus Trip 35). There's something to be said for being able to buy a camera in new condition and have much more confidence that it is going to work, and if it doesnt, you can replace or return it. Maybe if you are savvy and have some experience it is easier, but for a beginner, sometimes a new camera is just easier to start with.

The original LC-A was produced by the same factory that produced ZENIT cameras (here you have a link to the photo showing the original: www.sovietcams.com/sovietcams/m/m_images/wfiles/ie11dd12227.jpg ). What you have bought is a Chinese counterfeit licensed by MINT / Lomography from China. The Chinese version of LC-A gives you soap and a very blurry image. The original version from the Soviet Union gives a very sharp picture at the Olympus XA level but with a stronger vignette.

I see this originally Russian camera is now made in China. Wasn't the original made in metal ? I honestly don't know. Russian camera's that I have seen in real life looked and felt like they were built in the same factory as the legendary T34 tank. I have the Diana+ and it looks like the Diana is better value for money than this.

A comparison shootout is necessary with a similar cheap point and shoot. Because I think this camera is overrated and overpriced. I think you can get the same or better results with any cheap point and shoot. Please do a comparison.

Yoooooooooooo idk if you still do it but you really shouldn't go around taking pictures of kids One of my older photo professors told us about a photographer he knew who was just at a park with his big ol camera kinda back in the day just taking pictures, like you he was clearly not a pedophile, saw some kids playing and took a couple shot, but long story short people came back with baseball bats, destroyed his gear, and they put him in a vegetated state

In EU you need the parental approval to photograph teen agers and kids. And obviously the signed contract to use the pics for commercial use. Or you can be in big troubles. No one here shoot kids up the streets. That is also sick, for candid street photographers... but is like it is. bybye

Can you take street photography of adults subjects facing you and not kids? Take unsolicited photos of kids on the street is a bad example for new photographers.
