Actually it makes perfect sense if you drive a Ford pickup. When your truck breaks down you have a spare vehicle to get around in.

Smart car 🤔🤣🤣🤣 I may have to part ways now. I don't think you'll fit 🤣🤣🤣 Just do the thing, I'm loving it! 🤣🤣🤣 Oh I see, it's truck food! Do you get nervous when 18 wheelers pass? Oh, this is fun. Still laughing. I'm happy for your transition to full time RVing. It is a smart choice, I'm sure you will recover every time you jump back into the truck. That was easy. Fits like a glove. Awesome video, decision and welcome to full time RVing adventures. Safe travels. 🤣🤣🤣 Still laughing.

Just stumbled across this… looking to see if anyone was doing this. Looks Great! After 2 yrs hauling, any problems develop from housing the smart car inside? Ramp/Patio, frame, floor,etc? Actually if truck has the capability, it’s a great idea. Car in back reduces Ft hitch / box payload weight and newer F450 has extremely high tow rates. So you’re probably within your box payload, and under tow weight. I have a practically new 2016 SmartCar, less than 10k miles… feature packed. I’m 6’8" and fit in it great… full size car on "inside"…. Bit narrower! Was thinking of selling it, but now think I’ll keep it for hauling. Great video!
@TheCampoholics Жыл бұрын
We are still at it. Not sure if you saw our video but we also put Rhino liner on the surface of the ramp/deck. It still performs well. We try not to let the deck sit open in the rain. But all is well!

They are super easy to do maintenance on. Many last 150 k miles plus if you take care of them. Most parts are not too expensive if you buy aftermarket. You may not wanna pay Mercedes to ship a major part new from Germany because they get pricy. It's got an "Automatic Manual Transmission" which means it's a manual transmission that has a computer operated clutch. You can drive it in auto clutch mode like an automatic or you can shift it yourself using the stick shifter. It has a learning feature that learns to shift according to your style of driving. You can do a "throttle body reset" which takes a just few minutes which resets the system from the previous owner. It will cause the shift timings to change at lesser or higher RPM's so you can get better gas mileage or shift like a race car if you like to speed around, according to your driving habits. I suggest you look up the very simple throttle body reset procedure and redo it perhaps every 3 months to keep the car shifting to your driving style. I think you will learn to love the car so much you will realize only real men drive Smart cars.

Wow, that was some great information. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. 150k miles, should last us a long time. Thanks again!

@@TheCampoholics My pleasure. you'll also want to understand the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) It works with the ABS to give you both stability and traction control. A good video for that is here v=j-hHWSQhKuc (add that after the watch? in your URL above) There are ways to turn off the ESP If you really need to. Understanding these and if they are functioning properly when you are barreling down the highway at 70 plus may help save your life. The car has warning lights for both when they malfunction. Good to know for you because you will rely on these systems when going up the ramp into your motor home. The car does have a kind of power steering assist built into these systems but it doesn't use hydraulic fluid just an electric motor. The car can be push started. If the motor ever dies, the transmission can easily bolt up to many motorcycle engines that are dirt cheap and have way more horse power than the 70 hp that Smart cars have. This way, if or when it does die on you, you have a way to bring it back to life for your camping purposes. You could get a new motor from Mercedes but that would be very expensive and not the best option when you could make the car even better. Enjoy!

We really wanted to do the same thing with our 397 but 1700 lbs is just too much additional weight. Ended up getting a "Low Speed vehicle" (LSV) that weighs only 750 lbs. Legal for 45mph roads - depending on the State. Another factor was that, like you, they don't make gas Smart cars anymore and you have to buy used. Have fun.

Hello Dan, Yep, you have to make adjustments with regard to weight. We definitely left a lot of items behind to save weight. We got lucky, so far, on this purchase because the car was taken care of. Thanks for watching!

I recently purchased a small car also to out into my 2022 GD 397th. My question is how has it been having the case on your travels and does it effect the way it tows down the road? Also is unloading and loading easier? Because when I first loaded the car in mine I was a nervous wreck.
@TheCampoholics2 жыл бұрын
I was a very nervous person when I first started loading the smart car in the toy hauler. Now I just whip it in there like a champ! The Smart car weighs about 1800 lbs and I really don't notice any changes when hauling it. I did switch to 8K axles and disc brakes and Carlisle tires.
