This is one of my favorite movies ever and it was always interested me on how the public reacted to the movie at the time, I was born in 03 but what I got at the time is that Star Wars was so huge that the audience just thought of this as another space movie and was in for a surprise. But what always boggled me was the merchandise and there even was a Halloween costume! Thanks for your input of how everyone reacted to the merchandise because now I have a better idea of how people reacted to this masterpiece.

Another top episode fella, lots of history which I always enjoy. Alien is right up there with Star Wars for me I loved the first two films and maybe the original film most the 'world' that Ridley Scott built for that film was amazing watched it only the other day and the inside of the Nostromo still stands up for me. Geiger will be much missed but through this series of films has left his mark. Will you pick up any of the NECA or Super7/Funko releases? Wow top vid again, brilliant! Cheers, Fuzz.

I had this as a child back in the 70's. My parents bought it for me from a small Toy store in London for Christmas. I had not seen the movie and thought the Alien was awesome. My mother told me they only bought it because it was so strange looking. Had it for years and the tongue eventually broke. Sadly I sold it to a video store about 20 years ago for a few pounds so they could use it as display. Sort of regret doing that now, but guess that could be said for a lot of toys I no longer have.

I've been seeing this guy pieced on eBay. $75 for the dome. $50 for an arm, etc. I had to see what the fuss was all about. Awesome video showcasing the entire figure! And Kenner did a bang up job at the design! I associate Kenner with the 1990 figures I grew up with that were anything but movie accurate. Quite a rare piece to have in tact! She's a keeper!

It's is a very nice figure. Unfortunately it is very fragile. With Ebay prices on this guy, I've seen the prices all over the place. As always it's best just to wait for the best price to come up.

I heard once that a game cartridge based on E.T. movie, I think, did not sell well. So, the company buried them out in the desert. I wonder if Kenner did the same with these, when sales were below expectations. Imagine digging around and discovering piles and piles of these, maybe still with boxes. Nowaday, I bet NO FIRMS throw away failed products. Never know if they will regain popularity.

Love it finally got one. No box but I got the repro box recently for 50$ with the insert red of course. Still looking for the poster. Also got the Viewer and the cassette. No box though. Those are super rare. Got the entire set of figures Kenner didn't make. Those are amazing. Ebay. Thank god.

Mine has the red insert and the poster ; And a price tag that says "Sporting Goods" lol I used to have two of them. Sold one. I still haven't put a complete vid of mine up. I found that if I shined an LED flashlight on his skull it glows in the dark just long enough for the camcorder to capture it but yeah it shows up way more green then the reality ; I have to shoot it with my friend's Canon G20 this year to see how it does in low light.

My mate had this back in early 80s? It was a great toy - especially the jaws! This film was such a legend then! I did not see it until 1982 in B&W! So the 18 inch Alien made it to the UK- most likely to be sold on clearance? This toy is a legend!

Question are you familiar with stretch armstrong. 1976 to 80. They made the monster in 78. And see thru x ray in 79. Finally the holy grail. Stretch serpent. Also i remember the famous horror movie Dawn of the dead. 1979. No wonder i am weird

Awesome review. I find myself watching it many times. I just got myself a sealed figure at a toy fair last weekend for $250 and I nearly fainted. I was only looking for a dome for a loose figure that I have. Seller said that her friend brought a case way back in 1979 and it was her last figure.

Great video! I have 2 of the 6 loose examples as of June, 2014, of this superbly designed but fragile action figure that AFA (Action Figure Authority) has graded at 80 or higher and one boxed at 75 total (figure 85). The box is almost always in tatters or nonexistent like mine when I was nine years old in 1979 and ripped it apart. Requiescas in Pace, Hans.

It is interesting but not surprising that AFA has graded only six loose examples of the 18" 1979 Kenner Alien figure so far at 80 (btw, they will release what they call a "population report", i.e. how many examples of an item that they have graded at a certain level or higher) or higher because of the reasons you mention in the video. The design of this figure is amazing, but the quality of the plastic is abysmal. They have graded 35 boxed examples at 75 (total score for the box and contents) or higher because the contents were protected from breakage or loss including the poster.

Did Reaction/ Super 7 use the original Kenner molds for their Alien? That was the first thing they put out and they look almost identical. Also Ya man $500 is way to much to pay for what's basically a repro from the 70s. Its what 5 points of articulation well 7 with the wrist. For that kind of money it should come with a ton of articulation a cool base to stand on maybe a bit of back ground and even another character like Ripley or something. That is a boat load of money for a what is basically a cheaply made hollow toy. At the end of the day it's a luxury item amd you could get a crap load of other really kool toys for that money.🖖🤙🤘👍

Yes, these now are extremely fragile and rare in decent or better condition loose. I know because I have owned five. The plastic material was not of the best quality; however, Kenner's (the toy manufacturer) attention to H. R. Giger's design of this action figure was as brilliant as the original drawings he made. That is why Ridley Scott chose Giger's sketches/drawings for his alien in the film. One in the box is almost impossible to come by in any shape now because of the huge marketing mistake that Kenner made in 1979. The company recalled all of them that were still left on shelves everywhere because of enraged parents.

I just bought a non mint condition for 218 USD.Is not in anyway damage tho the mouth works the back intact and the tail dangling sightly and abit of paint off from the head but still the face is alright and pretty dirty tho lol not sure if I shl even clean it.A piece of history after all.If a toy company is making a new one for decent price I buy it to play lol and keep the 1979 one for display.
