Retro-Gaming-Realm This, Sonic and Altered Beast were my favorite Sega games as a child. I agree about it sticking to the plot; but it diverts away from it sometimes, like in Nightmare Buzz and (Really) Inside the Claw Machine. Aside from that, it was just like I was playing the movie.

wow... this takes me back to my childhood. The music brings back so many memories. I was never any good at the game, i always had my mother do the car sequence, i was terrible at using the inverted controls. I must have been about 6 at the time. It looks like an easy game when i watch it now, but as a child, i found it incredibly difficult. I vaguely remeber whipping some tyres with woody's lasso in a boss battle and that's as far as i ever got into the game.

Never got past the pizza parlour bit... and from what I remember, there were no saves so if you lost all your lives, you had to start again from the first level.

There are a lot of movie based games out there, that were quite horrid in their gameplay and level design to correspond to the source material. But this one was pretty dang good. Notice how when you have to use Buzz to fight off the mutant toys, you can see Woody's hand pressing the button on Lightyear's back.

I totally forgot about this game! Parents mentioned it off hand as a game I used to love as a kid. Super nostalgic seeing it again and slowly remembering it! Forgot how different and interesting each level was- I used to get genuinely excited with each new level.

This had some pretty good graphics for a game made in 1995, on a console that was originally released in 1989. It pushed the Genesis/Megadrive to its limit. I remember the game being difficult as hell, though. I don't think I made it past the Pizza Planet stage.

15:00 interesting to compare this 3D "Doom" part with the Snes version to see that the screen space is much larger here on Sega, also that screen resolution is wider so you have more room to move around. Also 24:00 is very smooth without mode 7 hardware.

Looking back its amazing the devs thought anyone could beat this game, let alone kids! I got stuck around the inside of the claw machine when fuses would blow up and fans were everywhere. I never got to the doom esque rescue of the aliens or the claw machine itself. Its incredibly unforgiving.

Lol I was definitely not alone. For some reason, the blocks with an 8 freaked me out the most, maybe because it's the same 8 that was present on 8-balls from the previous stage, and that reminded me of the way the brain jumbles things up in dreams. (This boss fight takes place in a nightmare.)

The commercial for this game was at the start of my Toy Story VHS. It freaked me out; it wasn't a light-hearted, happy commercial, didn't focus on the game playing like the movie and didn't feature Buzz or something like that. At least the kid had fun playing it.
